Definite cool one and different, particularly if you need to be outside, burn off some energy, not be indoors at another museum. Really impressive and well done

Everyone's favorite museum simply because of the unique exhibits. The exhibits don't ever really change, but they are memorable and can definitely make for a wonderful day of exploration. The new Oceans hall they built is beautiful!

At under 20 minutes, the fireworks show in Washington, DC is relatively short, especially compared to the rest of our list. But the patriotic fervor that surrounds the capitol city on this day makes this the most exciting place to celebrate Independence Day. The fireworks are launched right in the center of the National Mall and designed to burst just above the Washington Monument. Be sure to catch the National Independence Day Parade earlier in the day

This museum has exhibits that are constantly rotating and are some of the most beautiful pieces of art and sculpture. Definitely one of the best museums in DC. The only problem is that it closes a half hour before the rest of the museums, so be sure to hit this one early.

I visit this museum every time I go downtown. It is small enough to do in 20 minutes if you rush, but if you even slightly enjoy modern art you could easily spend hours here. Their exhibits that come through are very creative and unique. A definite draw for anyone. Also, it is not one of the most popular museums so if you need to get away, there is never a crowd here.

You'll get some good people-watching any time of the season at the Tidal Basin, but my favorite time to watch the crowds is during Cherry Blossom season, usually the first week in April. You'll see a swarm of a tourists, for sure, many of whom are Japanese, but you'll also get this lovely influx of locals.

For those of you interested in watching people do WEIRD things, head over to H Street NE to the Palace of Wonders, a bar-cum-freakshow theater. Other than sword swallowing and skipping across beds of nails/glass, nightly shows also include vaudeville acts, magic shows, and live music. This is hardly indicative of D.C.'s buttoned-up world of politicians and steakhouses, but is a fascinating experience that will offer much insight into the lesser-known pulse of the city.
