Dubai is a major destination for everything that glitters, from measly beads to chunky gold. Besides shopping in its ridiculously huge malls, there is a lot to see in this desert city like the Grand Mosque and the Jumeirah Mosque. Located in the rocky Hatta Mountains, you can get a glimpse of a historical village that goes back thousands of years. After intense renovation, Hatta Village now consists of 30 buildings made of mud, hay, sandalwood and palm fronds, just the way they were originally built. Overlooking the village are two towers, known as the "two stones" that were used as defense fortresses. Each building in the area provides a unique historical look at Dubai's past. Check out old weaponry, swords and guns displayed inside the Fortress which is where village meetings were held. The Sharia Mosque includes a large prayer hall and courtroom while the Folklore House reveals traditional Folklore poetry, "nabati," and musical instruments. Even kids can enjoy travelling back in time at the Children's Entertainment Area with traditional games and swings. You can also enjoy Hatta Village during one of the several heritage festivals throughout the year or with a guide d tour.

One of the largest sacred structures in Dubai, the Jumeirah Mosque is a dominant city landmark. Built in the medieval Fatimid tradition, this stone structure is a tribute to modern Islamic architecture. While strolling through the mosque at sunset, you will be washed in shadows by this elegant formation.

Nestled in the varied crags of the Hajar Mountains, the Hatta Rock Pools unfold its rocky corridors with bursting waterfalls and turquoise pools. Venture through the narrow passageways to find spring-fed pools that are yet to be discovered. Only half an hour from the ancient village of Hatta, this oasis is a hidden gem.

The Godolphin Gallery was named after one of the three founding stallions of the modern Arabian thoroughbred. The Gallery is appropriately located at the Nad Al Sheba racecourse with its rich history of races by the finest thoroughbreds in the world. Every major trophy won by Godolphin's leading horses is on display amidst photographs depicting victories and written accounts of the races. This lavish display of one of Dubai's many legacies is a worthy excursion.

If you're looking for a safari that gets you back to the city just in time to hit the clubs, look no further.
