Obuda Hotels

This hotel is a short way out of the city centre, situated in Obuda, on the Buda side of the river. It has excellent spa pools, which can be used for thermal treatments or just for relaxing. The hotel is very luxurious and is a great place to unwind.

This classic hotel has a wonderful location as it is set amidst the trees and greenery of peaceful Margaret Island. It has a delightful terrace for 'al fresco' dining. Many rooms have a balcony and guests can also use the spa facilities at the neighboring Thermal Hotel. There is a bus that goes to the center and the island itself is full of interesting walks; the Danube flows by about 50 meters away. The hotel is rated as a four-star establishment.

A Buda hills panzio, which is family run. There spacious rooms feel almost like bedrooms in a house. You can access the city center by bus to Moskva ter (where you can catch the metro). The street name pronounced bimbu, and not bimbo, delights many guests and tourists. The immediate surrounding area is considered to be one of the most desirable residential areas in the city. There are some fantastic panoramic views from here, as well as many green areas and interesting walks. Needless to say, there are some magnificent houses scattered about.

If you want peace and clean hill air, this is the place for you. This guest house is situated on the way up to the top of one of the Buda hills. It contains eight comfortable rooms. Getting to the center from here is easy - a bus ride and then the Metro. This is the perfect location to take full advantage of beautiful hills and kilometers of green walking trails.

If you really want to take advantage of the beauty and calm of the Buda hills, then this is the place to stay. Located at the end of the bus line, this panzio is within easy walking distance of the top of Lato hegy (376 meters) as well as a whole network of hiking and biking trails.

This is definitely a place to consider if you want peace and calm environment, especially in the warmer months. The location is close enough to downtown to be convenient but far enough away to be relaxing. More a huge house than a hotel, the atmosphere is informal and tranquil. Large terraces make sun tanning or afternoon naps especially pleasant. You can reach the centre in about twenty minutes by public transport.

Whether you're on vacation or business, the Danubius Health Spa Resort Helia is a good pick. Located on the banks of the River Danube, the only thing that beats this hotel's service is the splendid view it offers. Built in a Scandinavian style, most of its rooms were renovated in 2004. Conference rooms, a spa, a restaurant and bar, this four-star facility has it all and more. The hotel's Jupiter Restaurant hosts live piano performances every evening. And the multi-lingual staff make sure that your stay is just impeccable.

Hotel Budapest is located on the Buda side of the City. I must point out that this is nota luxurious hotel, nor particularly historical and we were a little dubious when we booked it. However, the rooms are spacious and very clean, the breakfast was excellent and the service extremely helpful. The other great thing about this hotel is the location. There are several trams that stop directly outside the hotel every few minutes, which made travelling around the City and getting to where we wanted to be was very easy. Aside from that, the hotel offers excellent value. So, if you're willing to forgo the art and architecture for location and efficiency, this could be a great choice especially if you're on a budget.

One of the great deluxe hotels in the city, Kempinski Hotel Corvinus often hosts heads of state and international celebrities. Though it does not offer views of the river, it is still a great place to stay. The rooms have all been beautifully furnished, but those watching the budget may not sleep well here as rates are steep. The hotel does offer plenty of places to eat, from Kempi Brauhaus to the Italian Ristorante Giardino. In the Lobby Lounge high tea is served every afternoon. Keep an eye out for Formula One drivers and crews during the Hungaoring race.

The 8-story atrium (complete with a full-scale replica of an early airplane) suggests where the hotel's name originated. It makes for a delightfully light and airy place to dine. All room sizes offer the possibility of a view over the Danube. A refurbishment has equipped this hotel (originally built in 1982) with all the modern conveniences you would expect. The lobby is worth seeing.

Built in 1976 around the ruins of a thirteenth-century Dominican monastery (the cloisters of which you can still walk around), this hotel offers amazing views over the Danube to Pest (in some rooms). However, it should be noted that if your business is in Pest, the journey can be tedious during the rush-hour. The hotel's successful integration into the old ruins won it an architectural award, although today it may be considered a slightly intrusive addition to the Castle District skyline.

Half the rooms here offer stunning views over the river to the Castle. During a major set of renovations, the hotel added the latest in high-tech conference facilities and improved on its business offerings. Its location is excellent, being close to most major sights and within a stone's throw of the Chain Bridge.

Taken over by the Marriott chain in 1992 and renovated room by room, this hotel has been completely revamped with the exception of the monolithic, Stalinist architecture of the exterior. Most of the rooms have a small balcony overlooking the river and are comfortably and well furnished. The Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch is very popular with ex-pats. The hotel also has a large and well-situated fitness center with windows overlooking the Danube.

This is a modern Austrian owned hotel set in a quiet street off Andrassy utca, only a stone's throw from the Opera House. The lobby and rooms are spacious, light and airy. The location is very convenient as it is on a metro line and also within walking distance of many sights. Many multinational companies have recently opened brand new offices right near here as well.

This very large hotel is made up of two separate buildings, connected to each other by one of Budapest's few aerial walkways. The location is excellent, on a side street just off one of the city's busiest thoroughfares. The windows have been soundproofed, ensuring your stay will be peaceful. There are many trendy cafés and excellent restaurants nearby and many sights are within easy walking distance. Be aware that there are several Mercure hotels in the city: you will need to know the name of the one you have chosen or the taxi driver may take you to the wrong one.
