The fish is delicious, very fresh and the meals are cheap.

Risotto can be prepared using a variety of ingredients, from mushrooms to seafood to vegetables and cheeses, but the traditional Milanese risotto, or Risotto alle Milanese, is made with beef broth and colored with saffron. It might seem light, but there is a heap of butter in there giving this dish its signature creaminess. Ahhh, but it is worth it ... you can trust me on that..

This is the prince of bars and pubs. It is, according to its own right, the mother of all aperitifs. An historical bar of Milan, the Bar Magenta has truly seen all of the fashion modes pass without ever suffering any repercussions and has shown the way to ten years of Milanese passion for the aperitif. The tram drivers and motorists that pass in front of the bar know that they must endure the exhausting lines and weave, somehow or other, between the parked cars of the bar customers. Inside the Bar, which has recently been restored and expanded, there is a typical Bohemian air with early 1900s Art Deco style furnishings. In addition, it is spacious and always full. Initially opened as the Italian version of English Pubs, it offers cocktails of every kind, as well as many speciality beers. Not to be missed.

It is not true that in Milan the majority of night clubs, bars or pubs are concentrated in the zone called the 'Città Studi' where the largest Universities and student housing is located. In the evening, this area, swarming with people, offers very little and one is obliged to move towards Brera or Ticinese. The only light, in the desert of the zone, is the Bar Matricola appreciated by students, and professors during the lunch break for a snack, a brunch or just for coffee. The Matricola is a bar in perfect classical style of an English pub in which excellent beer is served of a thousand qualities. The furnishings and surroundings in dark wood are very elegant and in the evening create a relaxing atmosphere which permits one to turn one's attention to thoughts that are unbearably light.

The sensation is that of colliding with a waterfall of cool water. The walls of the Idrico are entirely re-covered by panels of blue, grey, and white fiberglass-resin that simulate, and seek to re-construct, the tidal movement of the sea. Even the long curving bar is re-covered with a thousand small water blue tiles and, in a certain sense, seeks to follow the movement of the tides of the sea. The furnishings are not a marine style but, much more appropriately, one finds small satinized steel metal tables and chairs that match with a dry end of the millennium style. A thousand small tables welcome you even outside the bar at Happy Hour or after-dinner when the interior is bursting. Strongly not recommended to those that suffer sea sickness and have never been in a boat.

Certainly nothing special, but it remains one of the most crowded bars in Milan. The surroundings have been re-created in a style typically colonial: there are photographs of Peter Bird on the wall and, for those who appreciates this, stuffed animals, while the tables and chairs and a few rare plants are all made in Africa. The atmosphere is, however, particularly very unusual in comparison to all the other bars in the city: in summer it makes sense, but during the Milanese winter it is truly an African island in a frozen City. The speciality cocktail is the Frozen Daiquiri to enjoy in any flavour: strawberry, banana, etc. Very crowded at aperitif hour and late night. Pay attention to parking here as the street is very wide, but beyond the third row it becomes impossible to park: excellent for those who always want their sports car to be on display.

This young bar has thrown itself with all of its might into the Milanese nightlife and has, with full right, acquired a place of honour among the most à la mode bars in the city. It is divided into two parts: bar and restaurant. The kitchen is unequalled with respect to its aperitifs. The bar is typically New York in style, with photos of famous personalities that dominated the 60s and 70s adorning the walls. Founded by Simona Ventura and Giuliano Pagliuca amongst others, it is packed to the gills with models, theatrical performers and TV stars after performances.

The two enormous golden hands in the fiberglass-reinforced plastic that support the ceiling of this very new restaurant bar, give a new esoteric meaning to the third millennium. The bar harmoniously fits high-technology with the ancient beliefs that Shu was the God expected to support the celestial vault. The floor is done in a resin enriched with tiny chrome tiles. The ambience is dominated by intense green light that's wisely used and furnishes and illuminates the interior together with the bar in a 'Space 1999' style. Happy hour is rich with fresh fruit, original dishes, pasta and desserts from the restaurant.

This bar is popular with people who think they are more important than those that really count in the world of the star-system. It is a disco-bar-restaurant with several rooms, divided into two floors, and managed by a large modelling agency that obviously displays its own offspring to the Milanese nightlife crowd.This is the true fortune of the Gran Café Fashion: beautiful young girls surrounding by young people, less young people and young climbers. The restaurant has a classic kitchen, not exceptional, and above all not worth the price requested for the quality offered. The furnishings of the bar seek refined elegance and succeed in equilibrating a simple style with fashion: the only painful note is the verranda-courtyard in Boccaccio-renaissance style adorned with a mix of putty, fountains and fake plants together with numerous decorations of stucco and columns on the walls: decisively very kitsch!
