Every time I go to Donosti I try to get a table in Akelarre, without doubt the best restaurant in town, but not always is it possible; sometimes you have to make a reservation within one month. Pantel apple and honey, vanilla ice cream, pepper, raspberry fritters..and much more. All this delikatessen have a price, about 200 $ per person.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had. Arzak is great Basque food with modern cuisine skill. It is expensive and worth every penny. Make reservations way ahead of your trip because everyone knows this is the spot. I had a tasting menu that was literally 8 different dishes and each one was a wonderful surprise.

A tapa in the culinary tradition of Spain is a small portion of meal. When you enter to a bar in Barcelona you can see diferent tapas over the counter, then you ask for drinks and some tapas to taste. It can be the perfect substitute for a dinning or supper , and some of these places elaborate the tapas with the quality of the best restaurants.

Binniarroca is a fantastic restaurant serving beautiful food in a very intimate, romantic, outdoor setting. This is a gastronomic experience & would suit ‘foodies’ like myself! All ingredients are locally sourced and this is evident in the quality of the dishes. This is a great restaurant for large families having a get-together, romantic couples and groups of friends alike. The setting, food, service and ambience provides a truly memorable experience very typical of fine alfresco dining on Menorca.

Paella symbolises Spain in a way no other dish can. The saffron-flavoured rice with seafood, chicken and vegetables has its origins in the rice-producing area of Valencia. Farm labourers used to put in whatever food was available and seafood was added as Valencia was and is a port city. Each person ate directly from the pan with their own wooden spoon. Today it can be found around the country but you should really try it in the Valencia region.

Gazpacho is a soup made from tomatoes, breadcrumbs, cucumber and/or green peppers and served cold. Despite the thinness of the soup, the flavour kicks a punch. I find it particularly fantastic on a hot summers day. It is sometimes referred to as liquid salad and is a trademark dish of Andalusia.

Tapas are bite sized snacks of different varieties served in bars free with purchases of beer. They feature anything from calamari rings, to capsicum to spinach with chick peas. If you are looking for a good tapas bar look for a few tell tale signs - crowded counters or a mess of napkins and toothpicks on the floor beneath the bar. Most of the plates cost about 1-2 Euro and you can get a whole tapas feast of Spanish tortillas (a thick omelet, with pieces of potato inside), olives, and little sandwiches topped with shrimp or chorizo with beer for very little. There are two stories about the origins of tapas, which means lid in Spanish. The first goes that combining food with alcohol was a way of ensuring people didn't drink on empty stomachs. The alternative is that a lid was once placed over a beer to keep out flies. An olive was added and the other food developed from there.

A tortilla is any omelette and the famed dish, tortilla de patatas, has chopped potatoes cooked in with the eggs and any seasoning the chef desires (eg. onions, red peppers, chives, artichockes, ham, garlic etc). It is cooked very slowly on the stove and can be served both hot and cold. Sometimes it is used as an appetizer or bar snack (tapas).

In Barcelona you will frequently come across the Pa amb tomàquet, which literally means bread with tomato in Catalan. It's a typical Catalan cuisine with bread, sometimes toasted, rubbed with tomato and seasoned with olive oil and salt. Sometimes there is garlic rubbed on the bread and it usually comes with sausages, ham, cheese, anchovies, grilled vegetables or marinated fish.
