The British Hotel Restaurant

The British was established in 1838 and is one of South Australia's best-known and most historic pubs. Full of old-world charm and atmosphere with an elegant garden courtyard, this hotel makes a great place to unwind. The restaurant serves a wide range of modern Australian cuisine, specialising in meat dishes. Alternatively, visitors can cook their own meals on the courtyard barbecue. The Lounge Bar At Daniel O'Connell Hotel

Named after Irish patriot, Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847) - a committed peace protester who advocated the idea of "talk, not war." The Lounge Bar At Daniel O'Connell Hotel is an authentic Irish pub, the decor and fittings were imported from Dublin in a 40-foot container. There is a friendly and genuinely Irish atmosphere, with the bar staff chosen specifically for their Irish heritage. A 150-year old pepper tree shelters the delightful beer garden. The Irish/Australian restaurant offers dishes ranging from Annie Killow's Bangers and Mash to Kildare Kangaroo Fillet. There are 11 beers on tap, including traditional Irish favorites.

Kentish Arms Hotel

One of Adelaide's most colorful "Inns" established in 1848 by John Collard Cocker, a first-class Adelaide cricketer who designed the delightful Adelaide Oval. A simple, friendly pub tucked away in a quiet corner of beautiful, wide Stanley Street. Family owned and run, the hotel has barely altered in 152 years, with a strict no gaming machine/no gambling rule. Two beer gardens are used for popular outdoor events, such as regular screenings of old black and white "reel to reel" films - complete with popcorn! Check out the reasonably priced, country-sized pub meals, from pasta to steak.

Caffe Paesano

Living up to its name, Paesano, meaning "mate" or "local", this restaurant is popular spot for friends to share a good meal. Many will take in a movie in North Adelaide beforehand. Child-friendly, the restaurant boasts a large airy eating area, with an alfresco option on the pavement. You can enjoy an excellent range of antipasto (replenished three times a day) and one of the biggest wine lists around. All cakes are baked on the premises daily and there is superb gelati - try the exquisite tiramisu flavor.

Cibo Ristorante Pasticceria

Cibo Ristorante Pasticceria is famous for its wood-oven pizza, great coffee, extensive wine list and gelati made on the premises. Cibo exudes classic Italian elegance, from the heavy, iron door-handles to the Mediterranean-feel, tiered courtyard strung with dainty fairy-lights. Inside you will find dark wood, crisp, white tablecloths and mood-lighting throughout. Pizza favorites include smoked salmon, mascarpone cream cheese and rocket. Regular diners clamour for the Linguine Lillo Scoglio, mussels, cockles, oysters, prawns and calamari, cooked in their own juices with garlic, Italian parsley, chili and extra virgin olive oil.

The Pink Pig Wine Bar

Don't be surprised to see a pink pig staring at you when you enter the Pink Pig Wine Bar. It serves rich food and good wine and the live music will make your dining experience memorable. The must-tries include Chilli Cockels and Mussels in Napoletana Sauce and Marriage (spare ribs and devilled chicken wings) with Sandalford 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon wine. The Pink Pig is always crowded and brimming with activity and one of the fun spots in the city.

Najjars Café

The owners of Najjars Café have bought Lebanese "know how" to North Adelaide. While there is not much to the décor, the atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the food proves well worth the visit. The menu has a Mediterranean flavor, from traditional Lebanese and pasta to Asian. Regulars swear by the good quality coffee and favorites like the Kibbi roll, cooked lamb mince, cracked wheat and spices with tabouli, lettuce and hummus in Phoenician bread. Mouth-watering cakes, biscuits and Lebanese sweets are on display: it is impossible to resist the banana caramel cake! The space can also be used to host corporate and private events. The Banque Wine Bar

Banque Wine Bar is heritage listed and a prominent part of North Adelaide's commercial premises. It was built in 1884 at the end of South Australia's boom period. This place is a combination of an arty decor, attractive lighting and ample floor space, making it an ideal venue for birthday parties, wedding parties and private functions. Caledonian Hotel Cafe

Caledonian Hotel Cafe is known for its neatness and clean lines are a proof of that. Each entertainment area is effectively separated. The pub houses a top class restaurant called Barton's, which was chosen as the Best New Restaurant at the 2004 Restaurant Awards for Excellence and won the Best Restaurant at the Australian Hotel Awards SA. Barton's is known for its fabulous Australian cuisine with a special Mediterranean twist. Try dishes like Seared Ravioli of Quail or the Grilled Veal Loin. Guests can munch on something lighter from the cafe menu accompanied by a drink from the lively bar. Whether you are here for a fast bite, elaborate meal or just to have a good time at the bar, this place has it all. Caffe Buongiorno Tea Tree Plus

Whatever the time of day this restaurant is busy, and not just for the pizzas:the atmosphere is terrific. Caffe Buongiorno Tea Tree Plus is cozy and remains busy at all times of the day. Be at ease with just a newspaper as you make small talk with friends. The open kitchen sends out tantalizing wafts of freshly cooked dishes. The Brompton

Located on First Street, the Hotel Brompton is something new to the city. Locals come here to chill out at the bar, some come down to indulge in gaming while there are others who come here to grab a great meal with family, friends or that someone special. The crowds who come in are generally in their early thirties, the attire and clothing is casual  making the atmosphere relaxed and fun filled. The Brasserie which is the in-house restaurant is more sophisticated with a bit more of class has a two-fold menu which is mainly made up of traditional foods & pub grub. Patrons can also try the a la carte menu which is pre fixed for the day. The bar stocks a wide selections of wines and alcoholic beverages. They also have a huge courtyard where diners can sit and relax under the stars. Parking is also easily available here. Word is that a number of top celebrities have made their appearances here, so the next time you head down to the Brompton Hotel you may just bump into one.

Elephant Walk Cafe

Twelve years on, this is still one of Adelaide's most unusual cafes. You can not help but love its intimate atmosphere. Kitsch, cluttered and dimly lit, this tiny cafe seats only about 20 at a time - you may have to wait outside for a table! Sink into a two or four person booth, sheltered by large cane fans and screens. Try gourmet coffees and teas, snacks and cakes - perfect for a late night rendezvous.
