Puran's Restaurant

Please start you Saturday off with a wonderful Brunch at Purans on Hillhurst.

Everything on the menu is wonderful, but my personal favorite is the Filet Mignon with Eggs for only $12. You don't even need a knife for the meat, it's that tender and wonderful.

If you decide to eat dinner here, it is a little more pricey, but worth it. Their Seared Sesame-Crusted Ahi Tuna and any of their steak specials (preferably ones with their Gorgonzola sauce) is remarkable.

After Brunch, walk a few blocks South on Hillhurst to the Hollywood Gelato Company.

Hollywood Gelato Co

Their 20+ flavors of hand-made gelato takes me right back to Florence, Italy.

And, they support the neighborhood! if you show your receipt from any local Los Feliz restaurant, they will give you a free size upgrade!

After picking up your gelato, continue walking south on Los Feliz until you hit Franklin. Turn right onto Franklin and start heading toward Vermont.

Skylight Books

There aren't very many privately owned small bookstores like this left in the United States. Even the Elliot Bay Book Company in Seattle is in danger of closing, so please support the small businesses!

Everyone that works here is wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. The shop is divided into two different buildings with a small performing arts theatre nestled in between. Their newest section of the store houses their art collections including architecture, graphic novels, and anything and everything related to film and art.

The original building has a live tree growing in the center of it! You can spend hours in here wandering around and discovering new topics and books to put on your reading list.

This section of Vermont makes you feel like you are in a small town.

Una Mae's

This is a great vintage clothing shop, but here's my warning: you do pay the price for good quality!

There are several vintage and other clothing shops within a block of here, but Una Mae's is the most fun. I actually go in here because I want my apartment to look this cool!

Dresden Room Restaurant

Ever seen the movie "Swingers?"
Well, this is the place where Marty and Elayne perform in the Lounge every Monday-Saturday 9pm-1am. They can NOT be missed! Nor can their surprisingly strong Cape Cods!

This is a great place to have a cocktail and check out the local Los Feliz & Silverlake locals.

Wacko

If you EVER need to buy a gift for someone and you have absolutely NO IDEA what to buy... All you need to do is step into this crazy book store / art gallery / gag gift shop / hand made clothing & purse store...and you will find what you never thought existed.

Tiki items, wacky candles, odd bobble heads, strange dolls.... it's difficult to describe, but they have everything!

Yuca's

Trust me when I tell you that a friend in San Francisco drives all the way down to Yuca's twice a year JUST for a Yuca's Carne Asada Burrito!
They have won so many awards, that they don't even have room on the walls of this 10x10 shack, located in a run-down parking lot on Hillhurst, to hang any of them.
But the locals know it. They plan their lunch schedule around it. For many years I lived just two blocks from Yuca's and I could tell you at any hour of the day how many people were standing in line. I'll tell you what... It doesn't matter. You'll wait in that line no matter how long it is...
.... trust me. It's worth driving 364 miles for!
