Emerald Bay

Emerald Bay can be found on a privately owned island located just off Malaysia's west coast, and it usually finds itself posted in the top ten of the world's best beaches. The bay forms a flawless crescent shape, with pure golden sand and quiet, emerald-green water.

The property itself is owned by the luxury Pangkor Laut Resort, and only guest have the opportunity to indulge in bay. The are itself is free from hawkers of all sorts and it just the place for pure relaxation. Against all odds of commercial success, the largest portion of the island is still untouched, with plenty of natural jungle and beauty just outside the gates of this fine resort. The destination is open year round, but the best time to visit is between January and May.

The Datai Langkawi

The beaches found on this perfectly developed island are often looked upon as the world's most pleasingly secluded hideaways by the ardent traveler. A drawback however is that most of the best coves have been taken over by big name, luxury resorts.

However, if you have an independent streak, you will want to try Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah, or the flawless crescent of Datai beach. Langkawi also is perfect for snorkeling, particularly at Palau Payar Marine Park where you will find the best coral reefs in Malaysia. The best season is Nov-May, when you will find clear skies and low humidity.

Tioman Island, Johor

Tioman Island is consider one of the most dazzling islands in Malaysia and is mainly unspoiled in spite of ever increasing development. It is the perfect destination for lovers of nature, for golfers and particularly those who want to explore the underwater due to close offshore reefs and crystal clear water. It offers up many small, soft and golden sandy beaches with the tropical jungle as a backdrop. Beware of the monkeys though it you are an avid golfer, they just can't resist those little white balls!
If you want total serenity, try the 2.5 hour trek up to Kampung Juara, the islands main village.

Long Beach, Kecil island, Perhentian Islands

The Perhentian Islands are not an option, if you are in Malaysia and on a budget, you just have to visit. The islands offer up some of the have world's most dazzling beaches and first class diving coupled with a variety of inexpensive accommodations make it a paradise.

If you want action, then Long Beach is where it's happening. On Kecil Island, you can opt for Coral bay or the other island - Besar - if you are searching for something smaller and more tranquil. Be warned, due to being maybe the most popular destination for Malaysians, you must book far in advance if you want to go during the best season of June-August or during the best diving season being April-May.

Turtle Beach and Golden Beach, Similajau National Park, Sarawak

A fantastic park with over 30 km of golden sand beaches surrounded by cliffs where tropical wildlife abounds makes for wonderful paradise. It may be a hassle of sorts to get there, but for some of the finest beaches in Malaysia, jungle streams, waterfalls and 185 species of bird and plenty of animals - it is more than worth it.

The park offers up chalets with an open-air café, hostels and a camping site near fantastic beaches, but the most spectacular ones, Turtle and Golden Beaches require a permit and are a journey to the tune of 8 km if you fancy hiking. You do have the option to hire a boat! The best time to visit is April-September, so book in advance!
