The Golan Heights were annexed to Israel after the 6 day war in 1967. It is fasinating place to visit especially along the Syrian Border. Viewing across into Syria from Mt. Avital you can see Kunetra and other smaller Syrian villages. Many Druze live in the Golan and some have relatives across the border. The Golan has many prize winning wineries and produces many harvests of apples. Mt. Hermon is close by and is the only skiing area in Israel, in fact you can snow ski and water ski on the Sea of Galilee on the same day!!
