Dining in Charleston can be a memorable affair -- both in taste and in your pocketbook. Tristan goes heavy on the delicious factor but relatively light on the monetary one!
We have dined there alone for lunch and, most recently with 6 others for dinner. We enjoyed choosing from the prix fixe three course tasting menu both times. For $35 you choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. (Less at lunch)
The She Crab soup I chose for lunch on our first visit last year was so good I had to try it again to see if my memory had enhanced its goodness or if it really was that good. Conclusion (and consensus by all that night): It really was that good! My husband had the pork belly and heirloom baked beans and devoured them.
For my main course I had the Diver Scallops with white lima beans and spring vegetable minestrone. My husband had the Keegan Filion Farm Chicken with foie gras stuffing, brussels sprouts and mushrooms and chestnut veloute. Others had the filet, duck breast and flounder. Dessert was a nice size portion but not over the top ("bittersweet chocolate").
The military style service where all dinners are presented in unison was really a treat. So few fine restaurants do that anymore.
The wine list is amble and not overpriced. And if three courses are not enough, you may do a 4 course tasting menu for $45.
The restaurant can be entered from Market Street or from the entrance to the French Quarter Inn.
It's official address is 55 South Market St.
