Tristan Restaurant

Dining in Charleston can be a memorable affair -- both in taste and in your pocketbook. Tristan goes heavy on the delicious factor but relatively light on the monetary one!
We have dined there alone for lunch and, most recently with 6 others for dinner. We enjoyed choosing from the prix fixe three course tasting menu both times. For $35 you choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. (Less at lunch)
The She Crab soup I chose for lunch on our first visit last year was so good I had to try it again to see if my memory had enhanced its goodness or if it really was that good. Conclusion (and consensus by all that night): It really was that good! My husband had the pork belly and heirloom baked beans and devoured them.
For my main course I had the Diver Scallops with white lima beans and spring vegetable minestrone. My husband had the Keegan Filion Farm Chicken with foie gras stuffing, brussels sprouts and mushrooms and chestnut veloute. Others had the filet, duck breast and flounder. (You can see the entire menu at http://www.tristandining.com/ourmenus.asp
Dessert was a nice size portion but not over the top ("bittersweet chocolate").
The military style service where all dinners are presented in unison was really a treat. So few fine restaurants do that anymore.
The wine list is amble and not overpriced. And if three courses are not enough, you may do a 4 course tasting menu for $45.
The restaurant can be entered from Market Street or from the entrance to the French Quarter Inn.
It's official address is 55 South Market St.

82 Queen St

Sharing a birthday with friends is good in itself but sharing a birthday with friends while dining in the courtyard at 82 Queen Street is really special. The food is quite good in itself but the atmosphere is what really makes this place rock.

Barefoot Bistro

This tiny restaurant won't draw you in with a big fancy building but once you have discovered it, you'll want to go back again and again.
Located on the Isle of Palms, you'll find varied menu that changes daily and a casual atmosphere. The fish was outstanding and the preparations were creative. Those in our group who had "turf" enjoyed their meals just as much as we "surf"ers.
The prices were reasonable, the service attentive and the food great. So who needs atmosphere??

Hank's Seafood Restaurant

This was a fun place with good food. For someone who hasn't thought ahead about reservations, there is a "community table" in the middle of the restaurant where you can sit with others to enjoy your meal. Prices are fair, food is good and it is a fun place. (Only open for dinner!)

Fort Sumpter

After many trips to Charleston, we had never visited Ft Sumpter. It took our friend from Ohio who wanted to see it to get us there!
We thanked Terry many times for the suggestion because all of us really enjoyed it. Even if you're not a history buff, you can appreciate that this is where the Civil War began! You can also enjoy the beautiful views of the Charleston waterfront.
The tours go from Patriot's Point and the Aquarium several times a day. You go by boat.Check the schedule ahead of time because of that.

Classic Carriage Tours

What a great way to take in the sights of Charleston. You will be taken on one of four routes in a horse-drawn Carriage. (You won't know the route until you are on your way). It is a leisurely way to explore the lovely sights of Charleston!
