O'Neill's of Suffolk Street

A pub with a lunchtime carvery - couldn't recommend more ... it's cheap, but you get a ton of very amazing Irish food (I think they offer about five different types of potatoes) ... Opposite the tourist office on Suffolk St near Grafton Street ... Hit it up for lunch, when it's cheaper and the pub crowd hasn't arrived yet...

Porterhouse Brewing Company

Porterhouse Brewing Company

There's two of them. One in Temple Bar and one not far from Grafton Street. Both offer good food at a decent price for lunch and dinner and a whole lot of cool and creative drinks... Good pub atmosphere at night too! http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/index-2.html

Steps Of Rome

Steps Of Rome

There's tons of food in the vicinity of Grafton Street and Temple Bar, ranging from fish and chips, kebabs, and pizza (Steps of Rome off Grafton is honestly the only close to good pizza I found) to a Wagamama's (noodle place - very popular, though there's one in Boston now, so it has lost its European charm) and other fairly cheap but good restaurants. Avoid sit-down places if they look formal or old fashioned... In Ireland they are usually more expensive than they should be and never that amazing.

Captain Americas

If you're absolutely stuck for dinner and need familiar, American food, there's a place called Captain America's on Grafton - it's basically a TGI Friday's. Funny thing I remember - their "American" burger had a fried egg on it. Clearly they don't know us that well...

Went to lunch their on the 4th of July... it felt right.

The Church (formerly John M Keating)

The Church (formerly John M Keating)

More expensive ... Not far from the shopping on Henry Street is The John M. Keating bar, which is also a great restaurant -- it's the place that used to be a church and has two different bars, including one in the former crypt. A little more expensive for dinner, but it's very worth it...

Messrs Maguire

Messrs Maguire

-We spent TONS of time at Messrs Maguire, which isn't far from city centre - just over the O'Connell Street Bridge on your left hand side as you walk south... a cool place with 3 floors and a view of city centre and they have their own brews as well, which isn't all that common in Ireland ... http://www.dublintourist.com/details/messrs_maguire.shtml

Turk's Head

Turk's Head

The biggest tourist spot in terms of drinking is an area called "Temple Bar"... The Porterhouse is a good place to start, but also check out the Turkshead ...it's at the far end of Temple Bar, but worth the walk... it gets busy on the weekends and the dance floor in the basement is pretty cool if the group is looking to avoid the more common old man pub. Definitely go here instead of going to "International Bar" or "Fitzsimons," which are more club-like bars that are three stories and not much fun because of overcrowding ... http://www.turkshead.ie/

Octagon Bar

Octagon Bar

If you're bar hopping and curious, check out the bar in Bono's hotel, called Octagon Bar, which I believe is also in Temple Bar. It's terribly expensive to get a drink there (though they are super fancy), but cool to say you were there. When we went it was pretty dead, but I'm sure it gets busy on the weekends... http://www.dublintourist.com/details/the_octagon_bar.shtml

Dakota Bar

Dakota Bar

Because I'm not a clubber... They are a little hidden, but my two favorites in Dublin are Dakota Bar and Market Bar off of Wicklow, hard to find but very cool inside ...Dakota has great big leather chairs (and great food!!) to enjoy and Market Bar is just a big open cool building, though it does get a little loud when it's busy...

Gravity Bar @ the Guinness Storehouse

Guinness Storehouse... the required stop for any tourist... not as cheap as you might think, but you get a free Guinness at the amazing Sky Bar (the best view of Dublin there is)...

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle

A very cool historical site because it has excited since the Vikings!

St. Stephen's Green East

St. Stephen's Green East

Dublin's great relaxing park.
