Deep Sea Fishing Cancun
The deep-water channel between the Yucatan Coast and the Island of Cozumel squeezes the Gulf Stream as it passes by on its journey northward. This "funnel" effect causes an upwelling and an abundance of fish, from small to large, in the Cancun-Cozumel area. When avid sport fishermen drop their lines in water to fish they are sure to catch the experience of a lifetime. And the warm waters off the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula are teeming with fish all year round.
Local fishing charters put you in pursuit of big game fish. You will fish for Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna, Kingfish, Barracuda, Grouper and more. Normally you will begin fishing by trolling and if trolling does not produce the results you desire or you get tired of that then you can pull up on the reef and bottom fish. Bottom fishing almost never fails to yield Grouper, Snapper, Trigger fish and other edible delights.
Flats Fishing in Cancun
The well known resort of Cancun is a great setting for the warm weather travelers. The visiting Sport Fishermen can experience a wide variety of shallow water/flats species. The fishing area is quite pristine and is home to many different species of birds, as well as fish. Anglers have a very good chance at getting a super grand slam (tarpon, snook, bonefish and permit) in a few days of fishing. This is light tackle fishing at its best for both the fly and conventional angler. Cancun is known to be primarily a tarpon and snook fishery all year round with best chances at bonefish and permit occurring in the summer months. Both Spinning and Fly Fishing is available. The fishing area produces fish all year, but the winter months, due to weather, leave the flats sparse for bonefish and permit. All other species are present throughout the year. Species of fish include bonefish, tarpon, snook, permit, snapper, barracuda and sea trout.

What to do with the fish? When you go fishing the fish you catch actually belong to you the angler. After all you rented the boat and you caught them.
So what do you do with the fish? Actually one of the most fun things to do is have the crew fillet them for you and then you take them to any of the many excellent restaurants in Cancun and have them prepared for dinner for you and your family or group. (Now if you are at an all inclusive you can still do this but you may have to tip the host or hostess to get it done.) I recommend that you have the fish prepared three different ways. The reason for three different ways is that one will be usually be exceptional, one ok and one may not be to your liking. So three ways and you are set. So take more fillets than you can eat-and as a rule you will have more fish than you can eat. As the say in Spanish "aprovecho."
What should be taken on a fishing trip? If you think you may get seasick or if you do not know if you will get sea sick it is recommend that you take "Ginger Pills." That’s right ground up ginger has excellent "stomach-settling" properties. The commercial seasickness pills may make you sleepy and Ginger has no side effects. Since you will be in the sun for 4,6 or 8 hours - except for the shade on the boat it is recommend that you have a cap or hat, sunglasses, and sun protection.
