Burton-on-the-water

It's easy to imaging yourself in Venice in Bourton-on-the-Water thanks to the canal like stream that runs through the village. In fact it's known as "Venice of the Cotswolds". It was definitely the highlight of a visit to this region of quaint stone houses, particularly the small road and footbridges. There's a quaint Farmer's Market on the fourth Sunday of the month too.

Cirencester, Wiltshire

Cirencester, Wiltshire

Cirencester is a market town and the largest of the Cotswold District. It doesn't quite have the village feel of some of the other places but you can get some pretty good high teas in the main street in historical buildings. If you've toured around the Cotswolds all morning it's a good place to stop for a bite. It also features a Roman amphitheatre, the fine Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the fine gardens of Cirencester House.

Chipping Campden

Chipping is another market town with a lovely terraced high street. You could visit the churches and restored houses, but you should also go to the museum celebrating the Arts and Crafts of the area. There's also the annual Cotswold Games held here with sports that date right back to the 17th century.

Bibury, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7

Bibury is a lot smaller than some of the other villages but so a typical, quaint, cute, picturesque - it's everything you expect of both England and the Cotswolds. There are a few things to see like the old mill which is now a folk and agricultural museum, a trout farm and a small inn/pub called the catherine Wheel.

Broadway

Broadway

You could base here to explore the Cotswolds as there are quite a few pubs, hotels and even a caravan park. It's called Broadway because the wide, main street is lined with chestnut trees and the typical limestone Cotswold buildings. Many date to the 16th century. It was also once a stagecoach stop between London and Worcester. Many people come here for the arts and antiques.
