Yi Fu Theater

Yi Fu Theater is the place to experience Jing Ju or Peking Opera. While the high-pitched decibels in these performances could probably damage your hearing, they are a must for anybody wanting to understand a little bit of China's artistic and cultural heritage. Performances at Yi Fi also include acrobatics and gong fu. If it is Peking Opera you are after, performances are on Sundays at matinee times. Regional varieties of operas and plays are available at other times. Admission prices vary according to season the performance and season.

Nan Shi Theater

This theater has a seating capacity of up to 1500 and tourists and foreigners often come here to pass a pleasant evening filled with entertainment. This high-tech venue holds interesting performances from time to time. If you are not in the mood for live entertainment, you can play computer games here or simply chill at the café with a hot cup of coffee.

Tianchan Peking Opera Centre Yifu Theatre

This theater was established in 1925. It has since undergone several face lifts since. Most of the productions staged are well-known and the creme de la creme of Shanghai turn up at the performances. The auditorium has 928 seats all divided into two levels. The Yifu theater has attracted drama troupes from Hong Kong, Taiwan and main land China. So you can call them for the timings and catch up with the latest opera being performed.

New York Disc Ballroom

Located by the Suzhou river, this eatery has established itself as a popular meeting place. Originally a French Theater, this old building is not that big either. The eighteenth century architecture somehow draws in the crowds. Certain special days hold special treats, so the ladies can enjoy the big game and a prize that follows on a Wednesday. Saturday holds the black and white matches and Sundays you'll find everybody clad in black.

Grand Cinema

Thanks to the German architect  L.E Hudec, this theater came into being in 1928 and went on to become one of the most luxurious theaters in the city.
