Mousonturm

This tall brick tower was once a part of a large factory which produced Mouson soap. In 1988, the buildings were transformed into a cultural center consisting of a main stage and auditorium, as well as two smaller stages and a rehearsal room for musicians. Mousonturm also features four art studios, a fully equipped sound studio, a theatre workshop and a restaurant. The program is equally varied, featuring national and international dance acts, cabarets, theatre ensembles, literary fests, art shows and music fests. One of the few successful examples of transforming an industrial plant into an entertainment complex, Mousonturm is definitely worth a visit. Die Katakombe

The Katakombe Theatre is well known for its magical children's performances, as well as for its quality evening shows for adults. Children's performances take place at the weekend and are fast and furious, with only a few actors handling the whole scene. The evening plays are often contemporary works, although classic plays by the likes of Goethe are occasionally scheduled.

Volkstheater Frankfurt

Be it a foreign classic or a local favourite, all plays here are performed in the local dialect. The Volkstheater was founded by the well-known Frankfurt actress, Liesel Christ, more than a quarter of a century ago. Deutscher Sportpresseball

One of the highlights on Frankfurt's social calendar is the German Sportswriters' Ball. St. Nicholas Day

Christmas celebrations begin early in Germany and St. Nicholas Day sets the scene. During the day, the German Nicholas rides about on a white horse or a horse-drawn sleigh, followed by his manservant, Ruprecht, handing out candy to the children they pass. This procession is an exciting event for everyone, especially since St. Nicholas' journey through downtown Frankfurt is in the midst of the Christmas Market.
