Holzhausenschlösschen

This idyllic castle is situated in the middle of a lake in Holzhausen park. Built in 1727-29, it was once the Holzhausen dynasty's country residence. The Rococo building changed hands when it was taken over by the city of Frankfurt in 1923. Today it is used for exhibitions and classical concerts. You have to cross a small bridge to enter the beautiful building. The park area is well worth investigating and there is a beautiful playground for children. Check out the website for upcoming shows at Holzhausenschlösschen.

Rosen- und Lichterfest

Once a year when its plants and flowers are in full bloom, the Palm Garden is the setting for a romantic, two day festival with music, dance and children's entertainment. The highlights are the crowning of the 'Queen of Flowers' and the candlelit procession through the gardens. The festival culminates with a huge firework display on the final evening. See local press for more information on opening hours and admission prices nearer the time.

Festhalle

For many years, Messe Frankfurt's mighty dome was the largest indoor arena in Europe. Iron buttresses span the dome at a height of over 30m, and the partitions are made of glass. The building was opened in 1908 for the 11th German Gymnastics Festival, but has remained incomplete: the proposed warehouse section and conference rooms were never built. Today, the hall is part of the exhibition center (known as 'Halle 2') and can hold up to 12,000 people. Over a century old, Festhalle is used as a venue for music and dance concerts, parties, opera, ice-skating, tennis tournaments, conferences and other big events.

Commerzbank Arena

Constructed from 2002 to 2005, the Commerzbank Arena is one of the world's largest convertible sports venues. The transparent roof gives the stadium an impressive cathedral-like feel, making this a worthy replacement of the old Waldstadion. The Stadium seats over 45,000 and there are several VIP boxes. Check the website for the complete list of the season's matches.

Papageno Musiktheater
