Bloukrans Bridge Bungy Jump

What can I say about the worlds highest bungy jump? It's high and it will scare you silly. At 216 meters The Bloukrans Bungy is according to the Guinness World Records the worlds highest commercial bungy. Every year thousands of crazy people flock to this bridge, pay a fee get strapped in and make the leap. Not sure if I'd call it fun, but hey everyone else is doing it right? Wrong according to the bunjy crew if you suffer from any of the following you should really avoid this sport: pregnancy, high blood pressure, heart conditions, neurological disorders, epilepsy, acute or chronic knee or back injuries, osteoporosis and any skeletal conditions. At the time of writing this guide Bloukrans Bunjy had a 100% safety record which is very commendable, so if you are in the area feel free to jump but please don't try to break the safety record.

Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour

Tsitsikamma Canopy tours is a unique eco-wilderness adventure that takes place in some of the most beautiful rainforest's in South Africa. Suspended about 30 meters above the forest floor adventures slide from one platform to another on a cable system. In South Africa we refer to this type of system as a fufi slide, this tour has 10 of these fufi slides and the longest of the slides is 100m in length. Bird and animal life in the forest is incredible and sightings of Knynsa louries, Narina Trogons and Vervet monkeys on not uncommon. Tsitsikamma Canopy tours is well worth the money and should not be missed when passing through Storms River Village.

Black Water Tubing

Black Water Tubing

Blackwater tubing, is the ultimate adventure activity for those wishing to get a little wet while in the Garden Route. Why is it called black water tubing you may wonder, well because the water in the Tsitsikamma is very dark in colour. The dark water is caused by the high levels of tannin in the water, which comes from all the plant sedement in the area, similar to when you make a cup of tea. If it hasn't rained for a while tubing can be relatively easy, however if the area has been having heavy rains, tubing can be extreme and when it gets too bad, they close the trial. Unlike other adventure activities in the area, tubing has sadly led to fatalities in the past. Blackwater tubing can be very fun or very dangerous, when tubing in Tsitsikamma make sure to follow the safety instructions of the guides very carefully.

Skydive Plettenberg Bay

Skydive Plettenberg Bay

The Plettenberg Bay drop zone happens to be one of the most mind blowing jumps available in South Africa and as such is also one of the busiest. After jumping from 10 000 feet skydivers free fall to earth for roughly 35-40 seconds before deploying their shoots and then slowly fly back down to earth. The total time from Jump to landing is about 5min. During this time look out for some of the hundreds of Dolphins that live near the coastline. Between May and October you may also be lucky enough to spot a whale or two. One word of warning though, this is not for the faint of heart!

Ocean Safaris

Africa's Ocean Safaris offer visitors to Plettenberg Bay a unique marine adventure. Get up close and personal with Whales, Dolphins and Seals. This is a must do when in Plettenberg Bay. Things to remember: 1. Motion sickness, it is advisable to take a pill 24h before doing the trip and a tablet an hour before the cruise, being sick at sea for 2hours is no joke. 2. It is best to dress according to the weather on the day you plan to do the cruise, always take a warm or weather proof jacket along as the Plett weather changes very often. 3. Don't forget to take along you camera. 4. The use of tripods, monopods and high heel shoe's are a big no no, so leave them at home. Apart from that all I can say is have fun.

Sea Kayaking

Ocean Blue Adventures is one of the few local companies offering a guided sea kayaking adventure from Central Beach Plettenberg Bay to Robberg Nature Reserve and back. During the trip you will normally encounter Seals and Dolphins and if you happen to be in Plett during the whale season you will see these majestic mammals up close and personal. All equipment is provided on this trip and even beginners like myself easily get used to the kayak and enjoy the trip.

Paragliding

Take to the sky for an unforgeable Tandem flight in some of the most amazing area's in The Garden Route. This is one of those sit back, relax and enjoy the flight trips. Be sure to take along some warm clothing and a camera. A must do for adventure junkies.

Mossel Bay Great White Shark Cage Diving

The word Great White Shark is probably the last thing you want to hear just before going for a dip in the ocean, especially since movies like Jaws were made. The question though that begs to be answered, are Great Whites really as evil as they make out in the movies? Thanks to White Shark Africa ocean extreme you can now safely enter the sharks domain, get up close and painfully personal and decide for yourself. The best part of the adventure is that even if you wet yourself with fear no one will notice ;-)

You can find White Shark Africa on Quay 4, at the Mossel Bay Harbour.

Plett Horse Trails

Plett Horse Trails gives you the chance to take a horse back trip into the hills of Wittedrif near Plettenberg Bay. As always take warm clothes a good camera and binoculars with.

Deep Sea fishing

Deep Sea Fishing is extremely fun, and in Plettenberg Bay, you seldom come out without a nice catch. Depending on the season there are different kinds of catches. Traditional Bottom fish are caught all year round, while your game fish like Garrick and Bonito are caught from November - June. Sharks are also best caught from September - June but these critters are pritty much here all year round. The following shark are usually caught in the area: Bronze Whaler, Black Tip Reef, Ragged Tooth, Spotted Gully and Thresher. The average trip lasts 5h. Things to remember, a warm jacket, sunblock, sun glasses, a nice hat and a good camera are items not to be left at home. Oh and don't forget to go to the toilet before you leave and drink motion sickness tablets if required. The ocean can be a rough place.
