Hilton Hyde Park

There are no signs of chintz and traditional floral overkill of most hotels in the interior of this townhouse hotel. It features wonderful views over Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens making it a wonderful location for the leisure traveler. The rooms are modern and the views from the rooms facing the park are truly exquisite. About 80% of the rooms have air-conditioning and all have soft, comfy duvets. There are also business facilities and meeting rooms for business travelers.

Corus Hotel Hyde Park

This large hotel in an elegant Grade II listed building has been recently improved with the addition of more than 100 new executive bedrooms aimed at business travellers. However, the hotel also caters for leisure visitors and is conveniently located for many of London's sights. Sightseeing tours, theatre, opera and ballet tickets and dinner reservations can all be made through the concierge. The hotel overlooks Hyde Park and is just a few minutes from Paddington Station where the Heathrow Express can take you to Heathrow Airport in 15 minutes.

Bayswater Inn

Picking a hotel in the Bayswater area, which is full of good, bad and mediocre hotels, can be a hit or miss situation. A modern, comfortable hotel like the Bayswater falls into the first category and probably ranks amongst the best medium-priced places to spend the night. Its location in Princess Square is ideal,  quite good for those times when you need peace but it's close enough to the bars, clubs, shops and restaurants of the West End for when you want to enjoy the city's bustle. The staff is courteous and the general décor is tastefully done. The Queensway room with adjacent syndicate rooms and basic conference equipment is available for conferences. Secretarial, photocopying, word processing, telex and fax services are also provided.

Thistle Kensington Gardens

The Thistle Kensington Gardens has the misfortune of being a modern tower block hotel in an area where even the worst B&B is located in a charming period building. If you don't mind the grey façade and the petrol station at the bottom, then the hotel can offer you a great deal in terms of service and facilities. It's a friendly but business-like place and aptly enough, corporate travellers dominate the guest roster. The four conference rooms and convenient location near the West End are definite draws.

Hilton London Metropole

Past all the kebab joints and cheap luggage shops on Edgware Road is a gleaming modern tower that is the Hilton London Metropole. It's your typical business hotel with shiny floors, leafy plants and conference groups swarming about the lobby area. The rooms are fabulously comfortable and are of the high standard you would expect of a Hilton. There's a health club with a pool, shopping arcade, a cafe and two restaurants. Both of which have views of London. You can admire the Marylebone flyover from Fiamma on the ground floor but you are likely to find the view from the Aspects of London restaurant, one of the highest restaurants in London, more pleasing. There are excellent facilities for corporate travelers including Internet access and laptop safes in the rooms. The conferencing facilities include 40 rooms and two conference theaters that can hold up 1,900 people. Banqueting facilities for 1,200 are also available and if you like, the hotel can arrange a belly dancer to entertain after business is done and dealt with.

Best Western Shaftesbury Paddington Court

Part of the Best Western group, the Best Western Shaftesbury Paddington Court is a good looking hotel within easy walking distance of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and Paddington Station. The rooms are comfortable and there are studio suites with data ports for PCs and microwaves for visitors who require them. The hotel's restaurant looks more inviting than what most other hotels in the area offer - it serves a range of meals and the continental breakfast comes included in the room rate.

Commodore Hotel

This is a four-star Victorian town house hotel, built in 1860, and decorated to reflect its history. Many of the pieces of furniture are antique, and include a sideboard once owned by Lillie Langtry. The hotel is situated opposite Hyde Park and is within easy reach of Oxford Street and many of London's attractions. The local transport facilities are excellent, so the Commodore makes a good base for exploring London. See website for online reservations and more.

Lagenda

It's hard to miss the Holiday Villa Hotel with the huge outdoor neon sign advertising its Malaysian restaurant, Lagenda. The restaurant is quite popular and traditional Malaysian bands often liven up the evenings. The hotel's interior is a little busy with a mish-mash of artefacts, colours and styles. The rooms are elegant in the way that only hotel rooms can be. There's a splash pool, sauna and jacuzzi, all big pluses since these facilities aren't that common in London hotels. The Karaoke Lounge might be a big draw for aspiring singers.

The Blakemore Hotel

The Blakemore Hotel was used a filming location for the film Notting Hill but its grandeur is available to all. This hotel, which is a stone's throw from the West End's temptations, has all the modern facilities you would expect plus the luxury of the Victorian look. The executive and club rooms are fully equipped for business travellers with PC sockets and trouser press facilities while the standard rooms have basic amenities. Corporate travellers can also enjoy a full range of secretarial services (on request) and conferencing facilities.

Westland Hotel

The Westland Hotel, located in a Victorian building built in 1896, is truly charming. From the beautiful garden entrance filled with magnolia trees and wisterias to the genuine hospitality of the family who run the hotel, everything has exudes a sense of warmth and welcome. The rooms are spacious by London standards and some overlook Kensington Gardens, while others have turbo whirlpool baths in them. The walled garden is a sanctuary that will make you forget that you are right on Bayswater Road, one of London's busiest. You will definitely want to come back to stay again.

Berjaya Eden Park Hotel

Berjaya Eden Park Hotel is a Victorian-style hotel, built in 1860, has been recently refurbished and is situated in a tree-lined terrace not far from Oxford Street. It's very popular with European and Asian tourists and business people. The rooms are decorated with tasteful classical touches. The beds are comfortable and basic facilities such hair-dryers and trouser presses are provided in all rooms. The suites are beautifully laid out and some have outdoor patios.

Stylotel

Stylotel has a bit more character than most of its counterparts on the Sussex Gardens hotel strip. The main interior is refreshingly modern with art deco accents. The breakfast room with wood furniture, stainless steel trimmings and TVs playing music videos is quite trendy, while the lounge keeps up to the set style standards too. Stylotel provides elegant accommodation at reasonable rates. So, an inexpensive and pleasant stay is guaranteed.
