Rheinterrasse

The Rheinterrasse Biergarten offers open air, great beer, and a beautiful view of the Rhine. Traditional wooden picnic tables are set up so patrons can socialize while they enjoy a cold one. The atmosphere is just right for swigging frothy brew from overflowing mugs and joining your fellow drinkers in a rousing beer song.

Zum Csikos

Rustic wooden tables, shimmering candlelight and emotive violin music lends a romantic, yet slightly melancholic feel to this Hungarian restaurant, making the ambiance reminiscent of days gone by. The tasty food is, as one would expect, warm and hearty, including hot goulash soup, bear meat and other exotic central European dishes and small snacks, which are best washed down with a glass or two of beer, especially the dark Czech beer U Fleku.

Dschunke

The Dschunke (junk) is certainly no Far Eastern luxury liner, but this 'restaurant ship' is the place to come for value-conscious lovers of the Chinese cuisine. The chef offers visitors to his galley a wide range of tasty dim sum , spicy Szechuan duck and scrumptious sweet and sour pork. A word of advice: best not go overboard with the traditional Oriental tipple, Sake or you may just end up feeling a touch sea-sick.

Zur Uel

Good old Zur Uel belongs to the Ratinger Straßen fixtures. That is to say, nobody knows exactly how long it has been there. But one thing is clear: even thought the decor in the two large rooms is not what one would describe as spectacular, the old town would not be the same without the Uel. People of all ages love the place and on warm summer nights (in particular Wednesdays and weekends) the Uel and the rest of the Ratinger Straaßen delta is a paradise for students and other Dusseldorfers. Holds 120 seated, 100 standing and 50 in the garden.

La Copa

Before one pays a visit to the 'longest bar in the world' in Dusseldorf's Altstadt, one should not miss a stop off at this professional Spanish tapas bar. Senor Lopez's staff is dedicated to creating over 60 different types of tapas, to keep their customers coming back for more. These small hispanic snacks (a common feature of which appears to be garlic oil) are an ideal way to lay the foundations for a trip to a few bars. Whether it's the wind-dried salami, grilled onions, marinated chicken or shell fish and prawns that tickle your fancy, you're bound to find something to suit everybody's taste here. A good tip: a red navarra is a choice tipple to start you off in the right frame of mind.

Brauerei Im Goldenen Ring

A heated legal battle between landlord and the old tenant over the real meaning of the term 'decent upstanding citizen' ended in the swift termination of the previous lease. It seems that the tenant had attempted to establish a quite unconventional bar for 'artists' and Düsseldorf's gay scene in this old fashioned local which offended the owner's idea of 'good sense'. Now, the atmosphere is quite different, offering 'decent upstanding' food in accordance with local traditions. This new pub and restaurant does come across as very professional, offering typical local wholesome meals such as Rheinland 'Sauerbraten' (braised beef) with raisin sauce and potato dumplings.

Fischhaus

The impressive glass cabinets, attractive tile floor and chic black bistro furniture add to Fischhaus's Parisian image. Anyone who has a taste for fish or seafood of any description will be in their element here. A good recommendation to start your meal off is the bouillabaisse. If you intend to head straight for a main course, the grilled sole, herbed salmon or freshly caught young herrings with onion rings and chives are all a real treat. The terrace has a beautiful view of the old town. Soft drinks and wine by the glass are available.
