Bailhouse Hotel and Mews Lincoln

Lincoln's biggest claim to fame is its castle and cathedral, a few minute walk from Bailhouse, which boats spectacular views of the castle, cathedral, on-site gardens or Bailgate from each room. Known as one of the best guest houses in town, Bailhouse's history dates back to 1350 when it was built as a medieval hall. Each of the 10 rooms is spacious, has private bathrooms and is adorned with traditional English decor. Rates start at £89.

White Hart Hotel

Though it's on the pricier side (starting at £120 per night), this boutique hotel has 48 rooms, an on-site restaurant and guarantees an unlumpy bed, thanks to a woman who paid sixpence for her room and filed a complaint in 1460. Despite the deep-rooted history, most visitors are interested in a more recent fact about the site: Churchill and Eisenhower met in the hotel during World War II.

The Lincoln Hotel

Facing the cathedral with easy access to the Eastgate Bar, which was once a Victorian mansion, the hotel is clean and centrally located. A spa, restaurant and bar are on-site. Take advantage of their 3-4-2 special during summer 2009; rates starting at £188.00 for three nights, which must include a Sunday night stay. Year-round rates start at £85.

The Duke William Inn

Each of the 12 rooms at The Duke William Inn is furnished with simple, classic decor. You might not get the historic feel at this spot, but you will appreciate the proximity to the cathedral and castle as well as the reasonable room rates, which start at £65 per night. Two bar areas and a restaurant are on-site. Foodies should take advantage of their special room rates, starting at £80, which includes an evening meal.

South Park Guest House

With rates starting at £25 per night, budget travels shouldn't pass up this charming B&B, which exists in a former Victorian residence. The location of South Park is a bit removed, though guests enjoy the quiet atmosphere and golfers take advantage of the course on-site. The "city centre" is within walking distance, where visitors can scope out shops, restaurants and sightseeing.
