Westmark Anchorage

In the heart of downtown Anchorage, this 14-story hotel is conveniently located across from the Egan Convention Center and two blocks from the Fifth Avenue Mall. Be sure to try the Solstice Cafe onsite. Nearly everything a traveler may desire is within walking distance including the Performing Arts Center, many restaurants, several breweries, lounges, banks, ATMs and the citys Visitors Center. The Captain Cook Hotel

Named after the discoverer of Cook Inlet, this hotel was built in 1964 to demonstrate prosperity in Alaska. One of only 100 worldwide hotels with Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide status, it boasts 20 floors of teak paneling and a foyer that displays marble tiles and columns. This downtown location offers three restaurants to choose from including the Crows Nest, and one pub, Fletchers. The hotel offers spectacular views of the Chugach and Alaskan Mountain Ranges.

Inlet Tower Suites

Downtown Anchorage is only six blocks away from this 14-story hotel. The studios and suites afford unobstructed views of Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range. Built in 1966 and remodeled in 1995, the lobby now has tastefully arranged overstuffed leather couches and easy chairs. The on-site restaurant is better than ever; be sure to reserve a table at Mixx Grill Steak and Seafood, the hotel's restaurant and lounge. Rates vary seasonally.

Clarion Suites

Located downtown next to Nordstrom, the Fifth Avenue Mall and the Federal Building, this most recent addition of Choice Hotel properties was completed in 1998. The lobby is tiled with gray marble and furnished with overstuffed leather couches and chairs. Each of the rooms are two-room suites and include a useful business feature: in-room fax machines. Within the hotel is a nine-restaurant food court, but if that doesn't satisfy you, fine dining options are within easy walking distance. Rates vary seasonally.

Hawthorn Suites

Three blocks west of downtown, next to the Delaney Park Strip (city park) and the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, this property contains many extras. Each large two-room suite has plenty of room with or without your family, and the recreational facilities provide hours of entertainment and exercise. Be sure to visit the on site Benihana Restaurant and enjoy the entertaining chefs with their table-side preparations. Rates will vary seasonally.

Anchorage Corporate Suites

Established in 1996, this hotel offers both short and long-term suite rentals. Only 10 minutes from the airport and a 10-minute walk from downtown, it is next to walking/biking trails. As an offshoot of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, follow the Chester Creek Greenbelt foot path or remain along the coast-hugging path and enjoy the sunset over Cook Inlet. A specialty grocery store New Sagaya-City Market is several minutes walk away; it provides a full deli with patio seating. Rates vary seasonally.

Anchorage Uptown Suites

Located in the old downtown district, and completely remodeled in 1998, this hotel is entirely made up of one-bedroom suites, within easy walking distance to the current downtown Anchorage shopping and business district only three blocks away. But having a full kitchen doesn't mean you have to eat in your room; many fine dining restaurants are nearby and recommendations can be found at the front desk. Nearby, Ship Creek fills with salmon runs and fishermen during the summer. Walk over and see the fun! Rates vary seasonally.

Hilton Anchorage

Centrally located in downtown Anchorage, this hotel boasts three restaurants (including Top of the World) and a lounge. Towering over the neighboring businesses, most rooms have exceptional views of the Sleeping Lady Mountain, Alaska Range, Cook Inlet, or Chugach Range. This luxurious hotel lives up to its name. Don't be alarmed by the polar and brown bears that grace the grand lobby; they're the friendly, stuffed species. Rates vary seasonally.

The Voyager Hotel

Located downtown, this four-story hotel is updated annually. Charming rooms are appointed in modern European style. As it is located only three blocks from the Performing Arts Center and many fine restaurants and shops, you may be able to avoid renting a car altogether. The friendly front desk staff will assist in planning your stay. Make sure you include a stop at the onsite restaurant and lounge; the Corsair serves exceptional American and continental cuisine. Days Inn

With its five Sunburst rating, this four storied, downtown property has received a first class seal of service, and comfort. Built in 1996, it is located less than a mile from the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, federal building, the Fifth Avenue Mall and Visitor's Center. Because of its proximity to Ship Creek, it is possible to watch the salmon spawn in summer and ice sculpture carving in winter. Rates vary according to season.

Sheraton Anchorage

A grand atrium complete with impressionistic totem poles greets you as you enter the lobby. Circling out from the atrium is a cafe, lounge, airline counter and a business services center. Atop the 16-story structure, first established in the late 70s, is Josephine's restaurant. The hotel's views include the Chugach and Alaska Mountain ranges, including glimpses of Mt. McKinley. If visiting during the winter months, check out the Hilltop Ski Resort, only a 15-minute drive or the Alyeska Ski Resort, a 45-minute drive. Rates vary seasonally.

Econo Inn

This 70s hotel was most recently remodeled in 1996, resulting in rooms that are contemporary in decor, simple, clean and comfortable. Only five miles to skiing in the winter and less than a mile from Ship Creek for summer salmon fishing, it is 1.3 miles to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail for your jogging and sunset viewing pleasure. For the shoppers, JC Penney & Co., Inc., Nordstroms, Gap and other retailers, are seven blocks due west at the Fifth Avenue Mall. Rates vary depending on the season.
