Millennium Bailey's Hotel

One of London's first purpose-built hotels, the Millennium Baileys is less formal than most, yet retains an elegant atmosphere. This hotel is a little gem in the opulent district of Chelsea. Sydney Street is just off Fulham Road, a few minutes away from the shopping paradise that is Brompton Cross, and five minutes' walk from the famous King's Road. Each of the hotels 21 rooms has been decorated in a very different style, and there's even a penthouse suite with a private roof terrace. Part of the charm of the hotel lies in not knowing what to expect at the end of each hallway.

San Domenico House

The five-star San Domenico House has gained a reputation as a classy and discreet hideaway that is perfectly poised for shopping, after all, it's right in the middle of the famed Brompton Cross, that's known for its healthy collection of luxury shops. This is an intimate little hotel with lavish interiors as each bedroom is individually designed, with a fair number of antiques and drapes. Those traveling alone might want to take note that there are no single rooms available.

Pelham Hotel

Decked with antiques in a country manor style, this lovely hotel in South Kensington is a beautiful place to stay. It still remains something of a secret gem for the older smart set. During Fashion Week, the hotel is booked solid with all the big editors and fashion buyers. It's no surprise really as the whole hotel is an antidote to minimalism - it's pure style and pure comfort.

K West Hotel & Spa

The K West Hotel & Spa is a four star deluxe hotel with spa facilities. It's certainly not cheap to stay in, but it is very chic, with contemporary décor, leathered furniture, earthy tones, et al. Spacious rooms are tastefully done with modern amenities, and designed to appeal to both leisure seekers and those on business. Kanteen, the onsite restaurant, serves Chef Samuel Sweeney's delectable creations. Several suites are available, as are some apartment-style accommodation for up to four people. Baden-Powell House

Right across the street from the Natural History Museum is this spacious concrete building, erected in 1961 in memory of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement. Throughout the year, thousands of scouts and guides visit the house when in London, and the hostel with 180 beds (all en suite) and conference facilities which plays host to around 300,000 people a year, from more than thirty different countries. Room charges are reduced for scouts and guides, but rates for the general public (given below) are still competitive. The Baden-Powell house hosts many weekly and special events, from performances to Ceroc dance classes. The lobby is home to a small permanent exhibition detailing Robert Baden-Powell's life and the birth of scouting.

Millennium Gloucester Hotel

An oasis of calm in the fashionable heart of Kensington, the Millennium Gloucester is elegantly furnished to provide spacious and stylish accommodation with excellent facilities for families and business people. Two minutes from Gloucester Road tube and just a short walk from Knightsbridge, the Natural History and Science Museums, the hotel is ideal for taking in London. Kensington Townhouse London

Located in Earl's Court, this hotel is very close to the Earl's Court Exhibition Centre, home to major concerts and a wide range of exhibitions. The décor is a mix of traditional and contemporary, with neutral tones accented by rich coloured accents throughout. The hotel restaurant serves continental breakfast daily and the Terrace Bistro offers a lighter fare.

Hotel Ibis London Earls Court

The Ibis London Earls Court Hotel, formerly known as the Paragon Hotel, is an eco-friendly luxury hotel, and is part of the Ibis chain of hotels. It is conveniently placed near the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, and is venue to quite a few press conferences and trade fairs. Besides offering its guests a host of facilities, the hotel is also well placed for transport into Central London, and to the shops and museums of Kensington. Check website for further details.

Halcyon

Offering discreet, understated quality, with an emphasis on customer service, this town house hotel was restored in 1989. The Halcyon is located in an upscale residential area on the fringes of London's hip Notting Hill district, and most rooms have lovely views over the adjacent Holland Park. It's both friendly and elegant, and is the hideout of many celebrities. Rooms have been individually designed, with decor ranging from the Ancient Egyptian to moons and stars, and all have up to the minute facilities.
