Hotel Jalta

This fairly famous 1950s hotel, built in the socialist-realist style, recently received a much-needed restoration job which luckily retained its atmosphere of faded elegance. Known as a crossing ground for spies and informers back in the old days, the hotel lobby seems to soak up the upbeat, non-stop pace of Wenceslas Square while pleasant, quiet rooms await above. The terrace and balconies overlooking the square are hits in the summer.

Andante Hotel

Located on a side street off Wenceslas Square, the Andante is perfect for tourists wanting to be within walking distance of the sights and for business travelers wanting to be in the commercial district. Originally built in 1938, the hotel was renovated in 1995, leaving simply furnished and cozy rooms. Though the restaurant serves tasty Czech fare, a wide range of restaurants and pubs are in the near vicinity. The multilingual hotel staff are hospitable and helpful with organizing tours and transportation.

Hotel Paris

One of the city's most exquisite examples of art nouveau architecture, the near 100-year-old Hotel Pariz. This is a Prague landmark, known for its sumptousness and attention to detail. The polished decorative cast-iron railings of its circular, frescoed staircases lead guests to simple, yet tastefully decorated rooms with hand-painted rose motifs. This family-run hotel stands beside the city's most celebrated art nouveau building, the Municipal House, forming an attractive refuge in the heart of the city. Both the Sarah Bernhardt restaurant and Café de Paris fronting the hotel are Prague favorites.

Hotel Maximilian

Maximilian has all the grace of "Magic Prague" from centuries past, while at the same time offering guests the modern amenities expected of a four-star hotel. Tucked away in a quiet, cobblestoned stretch of the Old Town, the toned-down elegance of the place makes for a relaxing stay. Facilities include a Thai massage studio and a Floating Center where guests can relax in a bath filled with water enriched with natural crystals. All central sights are within walking distance.

Residence Nosticova

Residence Nosticova is hands down the best place for apartment-style accommodation in Prague. Fabulously reconstructed at the end of the decade by the city's finest carpenters, ceramists, decorators and painters, the residence is housed in a historic 17th century building on a small, quiet, cobbled street in the Lesser Quarter. For dining, the hotel s 10 rooms each have fully equipped kitchenettes and the popular Alchymist Club Restaurant features an extensive menu of fine Czech cuisine. Located in a quiet area, the hotel is a short walk from Kampa Park and the Vltava River.

The Grand Hotel Evropa

The stunning Evropa is a landmark hotel due to the brilliant 1905 art nouveau exterior. Unfortunately, the interior is hugely in need of restoration. That said, its worn appearance is reflected in the prices thereby making for a good central option, especially if you are planning on spending the vast majority of your time walking the city or if you are simply a nostalgia fan who craves the air of fading elegance. The street-level café is a real charmer and popular with locals and tourists alike.

Hotel Axa

Axa's rather drab facade might measure up short for visitors hoping to get a taste of the city's architectural splendor but it does provide a no-nonsense option with clean, comfortable rooms at reasonable prices. Popular with business travelers and tourists alike (especially groups from Western Europe), it offers a good base for exploring the city without the frills provided by fancier places. Choose a room at the back as trams race past the front. The large swimming pool and gym downstairs is popular with both locals and guests.

Novomestsky Hotel

Situated on a quiet street within a short walk of the metro and tram services, this hotel provides an oasis of calm in the middle of the bustling city. Rooms have facilities, such as satellite TV, minibar and telephone. There is a restaurant, U Braunu which serves Czech and international cuisine, as well as a café-bar. Disabled access is not available.

Albatros Botel

Those who want the Vltava River to be more than just part of the romantic scenery should climb aboard this unique boat hotel. Cheap and comfortable, it puts visitors within an easy walk of all the sights and the friendly staff can help with arranging tours and providing information on cultural events in Prague. It is a good option to keep in mind as other places fill up during the high season. The restaurant serves up tasty local dishes.

Hotel Salvator

This hotel is just a stone's throw from Namesti Republiky (Republic Square) and from what is probably Prague's most brilliant example of art nouveau architecture, the Municipal House. It is located on a quiet street in the city center. The simple, clean rooms make it perfect for those who value practical comfort without the frills. International cuisine is served up in the ground floor restaurant and a sports bar can be found in the spacious cellar. Most tourist sites are within walking distance.

Hotel Best Western Meteor Plaza

This Best Western offers quality rooms in a charmingly renovated building located in the heart of the city's tourist and business center. Only one step below luxury options, visitors looking for comfort will save a few pennies by staying here. As the story goes, there has been an inn on this site since 1307 and in the 17th century, it became the preferred sleeping quarters of the future Emperor Josef II. The charming brick vaulted cellar restaurant serves up tasty Czech treats along with the usual selection of Moravian wines and Czech beers.

Best Western Hotel Bila Labut

Popular with tourist groups from the United States and Western Europe expecting Western standards, the Bila Labut or "White Swan" is nestled on a quiet, cobble-stoned street in the center and offers straightforward, simple rooms. It is possibly lacking in the decorative charm of other places but at the same time, it provides a full range of modern amenities. A fairly new option on the Prague hotel scene, this conservative hotel is a less pricey alternative compared to its other central counterparts for tourists and business travelers who are less concerned with the glitz offered by other establishments. Tourists will find the hotel as a good base for exploring the city.
