Hotel Sunroute Asakusa

For nightlife and sightseeing, the Hotel Sunroute Asakusa puts guests right in the center of the action. Famous Asakusa Kannon Temple is adjacent to the hotel, and the district's events seem to go nonstop throughout the year, from the Samba Carnival in August to the Satsuki Festival in May. Rooms are small and simply furnished yet come with adequate facilities.

Sadachiyo

From the paper lanterns and tiled awnings of this traditional Japanese inn, guests will have the feeling of stepping back into a century past. Rooms are tatami-mat style. Accommodations are clean and comfortable. The Asakusa entertainment district and Kannon Temple are only a short distance away.

Hotel New Ueno

Located directly in front of Ueno Station, the Hotel New Ueno offers travelers an excellent base for both sightseeing and business. Near at hand are museums, art galleries, shopping streets and the Ueno Park Zoo. Accommodation is clean and comfortable, though a bit more expensive than similar lodgings in the Ueno area. A few Japanese-style rooms are available. Western style rooms come with private bath.

Hotel Pine Hill Ueno

Located in the Ueno district, Hotel Pine Hill provides an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business. Ueno Park, museums, art galleries and shopping streets are attractions near at hand, and mass transit makes access to Tokyo's business districts easy and convenient. Ikenohata Bunka Center

On the sixth floor of this popular wedding hall is a small hotel with rooms available midweek, although generally hard to get into on weekends. Both Western and Japanese style rooms are available, with and without bath. The hotel is on a quiet back street, not far from Shinobazu Pond and Ueno Park.

Kikuya Ryokan

Located in the Asakusa shopping and nightlife district, the four story Kikuya Ryokan provides an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business. Asakusa Kannon Temple and the Kappabashi Shopping Street are attractions near at hand. Only Japanese style rooms are available, with and without private bath.

New Koyo Hotel

For those willing to lodge in a rather out-of-the-way location, the New Koyo Hotel provides clean and simple accommodations at rock-bottom rates. All rooms are singles, with television, air-conditioning and access to a common bath. The hotel is 20 minutes from the Asakusa district on foot, four minutes from Ueno Park by subway.

Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu

Located in the Asakusa shopping and nightlife district, the six story Hotel Fukudaya was renovated in 1995 and provides an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business. Temples, museums, art galleries, and shopping streets are attractions near at hand. Both Japanese and Western-style rooms are available, with and without private bath. The communal bath on the top floor has a lovely view of the area.

Ryokan Katsutaro

Located within a short walk from the Ueno Park Zoo, the wooden two-story Ryokan Katsutaro offers travelers a hospitable and calm Japanese-inn atmosphere. It provides an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business, within easy access of central Tokyo, museums, art galleries, temples and shopping streets. Both Western and Japanese style rooms are available, with or without private bath.

Sakura Ryokan

Built in 1989, the five story Sakura Ryokan offers travelers a modern Japanese inn atmosphere, with emphasis on family style service and cleanliness. It provides an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business, within easy access of Asakusa Kannon Temple, Ueno Park Zoo, and the business districts of central Tokyo. Both Western and Japanese style rooms are available, with or without private bath.

Sawanoya Ryokan

Located within a short walk from Ueno Park Zoo, this ryokan provides travelers a hospitable and calm Japanese inn atmosphere. It is an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business, within easy access of attractions and central Tokyo. Only Japanese style rooms are available, with or without private bath. The ryokan stages occasional events, such as a lion dance or tea ceremony. The hotel is annually closed from December 29 to January 3 for New Year's holidays.

New Izu Hotel

For convenience, the New Izu's proximity to Ueno's range of shopping, dining, and cultural attractions is hard to beat. Sandwiched between small office buildings, this nondescript hotel comes without five-star luxuries but its rooms are undeniably cozy. The other draw is the neighborhood's endless distractions, from cheap eats to moderately-priced restaurants and bars, outdoor bargain bazaars to indoor departmental stores, parks, and museums to pachinko parlors. From Narita airport, an hour's ride on the Keisei Skyliner brings you to Ueno's rail hub, where the New Izu's doorstep is 5 minutes away by foot, across a pedestrian bridge.
