Ilikai Waikiki

With a great tradition of Aloha, this place offers visitors a home away from home on the edge of famous Waikiki. Combining luxurious accommodations with a spectacular marina location, it is a great place to stay whether your trip to Honolulu is short or lengthy. For guests that plan to stay in the area longer than a week, the hotel's condo rental section can provide up to six months' accommodations at a reasonable cost. Enjoy Hawaiian entertainment weekend nights with a torch lighting ceremony and music. This hotel is within walking distance to Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Shopping Center, the hotel is also accross the street from the world-famous Chart House Restaurant.

Queen Kapiolani Hotel

Overlooking the beautiful 108-acre Kapiolani Park, this high-rise has one of the best views of Diamond Head in Waikiki. It was built in 1959 and totally renovated in 1989. If you are into golf, this is a good place to stay, as the Ala Wai Golf course is just a few blocks away. Guests have access to nearby tennis courts, and the hotel sports a large swimming pool on the third floor deck. As you might expect from a large hotel, there are three choices for dining and drinking. The rooms are good sized, comfortable and clean. The decor is a bit dated but all in all, the place is well kept.

ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel

This boutique hotel provides the visitor with intimate accommodations in one of the world's most famous beach areas. Just two short blocks from the beach and close to all of Waikiki's shops and restaurants, this is an ideal place for honeymooners and other visitors seeking quiet elegance. The rooms and suites all have marble entries, in-room Jacuzzis, and entertainment systems complete with Bose speakers. Options include full kitchens, refrigerators or wet bars. Unlike most of the hotels in Waikiki, a complimentary continental breakfast is offered to guests daily.

The Royal Garden at Waikiki

Sitting on a quiet, tree-lined street between Kalakaua Avenue (the main thoroughfare of Waikiki) and the majestic Ala Wai Waterway, gracious service and intimate lodgings are found at this Waikiki hotel. It is situated just two-and-a-half blocks from Waikiki Beach, but you may prefer to skip the busy downtown scene altogether. Instead, relax by the hotel's large pool area and dine in the Casada Restaurant, a terrific Mediterranean-style establishment. There is also a cozy cocktail lounge right off the lobby.

Royal Hawaiian hotel

The so-called "Pink Palace of the Pacific" opened its doors in 1927 and has been a favorite for the international set ever since. Although there have been many renovations in its more than 70 years of operation, the hotel and grounds have remained graceful, relaxed and very Hawaiian. In one wing, each room comes with a private lanai, canopied bed and Queen Anne-style writing desk. The most luxurious accommodations, the Prestige Suites, are truly magnificent. This is one of two original Waikiki hotels, and it still retains the feeling of Old Waikiki.

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

Conveniently located just across the street from the beach at the quieter end of Waikiki, this contemporary hotel offers a choice of spacious accommodations from moderate to deluxe; many rooms have sweeping views of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. The pool deck and poolside bar have dynamic sunset views. Two restaurants and a shopping arcade are on the premises. Rooms are equipped with modern furnishings and amenities including mini-refrigerators and telephone voice mail.

The Breakers Hotel

Located less than a block from Waikiki Beach and the same distance from the elegant shops on Kalakaua Avenue, this hotel is right in the middle of it all. It's a different kind of place from the high-rises that surround it. Six low-rise buildings surround a pool and sundeck. The interior is comfortable if simple, with a relaxed, informal ambiance. Each unit offers an individual kitchenette. Medium-sized families may want to rent out one of the Garden Suites, which can accommodate a maximum of five persons.

Paradise View Hotel

Earlier known as the Diamond Head View Hotel, this hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Wakiki. It has an atmosphere of understated elegance and warmhearted aloha. It caters to visitors seeking a quiet, peaceful stay close to beaches, tennis courts and fine dining. With only 10 suites and one penthouse, it is often booked up for months in advance. This is especially true during Hawaii's peak seasons. Every suite has a well-appointed kitchenette and a private lanai with unobstructed views of Oahu's most famous landmark, Diamond Head crater.

Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel

This hotel prides itself on being small and quiet. It is a favorite for O'ahu leisure and business travelers on a budget. Like its sister property, the Waikiki Gateway Hotel, it is understated but quite pleasant. The rooms have a great view of the Waikiki area or the adjacent Ala Wai canal and golf course. Guests are within close proximity to Hawaii's new convention center and Waikiki's restaurants and shops. The low-priced studio units are a great bargain.

Waikiki Gateway Hotel

As its name implies, this hotel sits right at the start of the famous Waikiki Beach district. Many visitors think the location is one of the best in Honolulu, especially now that Hawaii's new convention center has opened two blocks away. This is what the management calls a "no nonsense place," but that doesn't mean cheap or tacky. The rooms are of ample size and very comfortable. The staff is friendly without being pushy, and families are welcome. The understated and lovely lobby makes a great first impression. There is an activities desk where guests can book snorkeling, boating and other activities. One of Honolulu's finest seafood eateries, Nick's Fishmarket, is on the ground floor.

Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel

This has been one of Hawaii's best hotel complexes for more than 45 years. Two towers, Tapa and Rainbow, are set in a huge garden paradise of tropical plants and wildlife and the Ali'i Tower is where guests are given the old-fashioned royal treatment. World-class shops, including the famous jewelry store Na Hoku and restaurants complement one of Hilton's finest efforts. The complex has a magnificent two-tiered pool and a luxuriant spa. The beach in front is more spacious than any hotel-front strip in Waikiki. At the on-the-beach activities hut, visitors can plan a day sail, parasail or snorkeling adventure at no extra charge.
