David Citadel Hotel

On the former site of the Jerusalem Hilton, the David Citadel Hotel has hosted visiting dignitaries such as Madeleine Albright and Hillary Clinton. Located a few minutes away from Jaffa Gate and the Tower of David, the restaurant and pool terrace offer a fairytale view over the Old City. King David Hotel

Built in 1931, this deluxe hotel enjoys sweeping views over Yemin Moshe and the Old City and is today the Dan Hotels chain's flagship hotel. The interior evokes the period of King David with influences taken from Assyrian and Hittite eras. This luxurious hotel is also a historical landmark. From 1936 until the end of the British Mandate period in 1948, the British Army used part of the hotel as its headquarters and in 1946 the Jewish Underground movement bombed the hotel, killing 91 people. Popular with dignitaries and celebrities, guests have ranged from Tony Blair and Ralph Lauren, to rock group Metallica.

King Solomon Hotel

Situated next to the Montefiore Windmill and a few steps away from Liberty Bell Park and Yemin Moshe, the area is scenic but only 10 minutes walk from the Old City's Jaffa Gate. It caters to religious Jewish travellers by offering a Glatt kosher menu and Shabbat lights in the bedrooms. The centrepiece of the lobby is a globe-shaped metal sculpture of Jerusalem, created by the English-born artist Frank Meisler. The outdoor pool overlooks the hills of the Judean desert.

The Olive Tree Hotel

This hotel comes complete with a legend. It allegedly occupies the site of an inn built in King David's era and the focal point of the central atrium is an olive tree which is said to be 2,000 years old. This modern and airy hotel is flooded with natural light, and its staff wearing costumes from King David's times. The floors of the hotel are named after the gates of the Old City. The hotel's health club is complete with a pool, saunas, and whirlpool area.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Jerusalem

At 880m and 21-floors, this is the tallest building in Jerusalem. The club lounge on the top floor gives a great aerial view over West Jerusalem. The hotel is located in the Givat Ram area, close to the Menachem Begin Highway (Jerusalem's main road), the road to Tel Aviv and the central bus station. It is the closest hotel to the International Conference Centre (the two buildings are connected by a passageway).

Little House in the Colony

Located on a beautiful tree-lined street in the German Colony, this bed and breakfast offers a warm welcome. With only 19 rooms, the attentive staff will make sure that each lodger receives personal attention. Choose between six different room sizes at various prices. A plentiful breakfast is served on the hotel's large balcony. The classy cafés and restaurants on Emek Refaim Street are down the road and the city centre and Old City attractions are within walking distance.

Regency Hotel Jerusalem

Set away from the bustle of the city on top of Mount Scopus, the hotel - which is integrated into the mountainside - offers a breathtaking panorama of the new and Old City and beyond into the Judean Hills. The public areas of the hotel are tastefully decorated with plants, fountains and a gallery standard Israeli art. The updated facilities will include 20 treatment rooms, Turkish baths and a health courtyard, complete with a juice bar.

Dan Panorama

This is the closest luxury hotel to the Old City, with the ancient walls just across the road. From the large glass windows of the Dikla Restaurant, diners can watch pilgrims, tourists and locals spilling towards Jaffa and New Gate. The interior is shaded and elegant, with tiled passageways and a glass roof atrium. The lower floor of the hotel houses a mini-mall with galleries and boutiques. A synagogue is also on location.

Dan Panorama Jerusalem

One of the Dan chain's three hotels in Jerusalem, this particular hotel is centrally located within comfortable walking distance of both the Old City and most attractions in modern Jerusalem. Views over Jerusalem can be enjoyed from the rooftop swimming pool. It offers five styles of rooms from a standard to a deluxe suite, as well as several onsite restaurants.

Moriah Classic Jerusalem

This delightful deluxe hotel is the first Novotel in Israel and describes itself as a four-star deluxe. The large, airy lobby gives a feel of elegance and space. The hotel is located slightly outside the Old City, close to the American Colony, and is conveniently located for both East and West Jerusalem. It is capable of handling large banquets for meetings and groups. The hotel also has Internet access.

Inbal Hotel

Located overlooking Liberty Bell Park, the Inbal (formerly the Laromme Hotel) is close to Yemin Moshe and within comfortable walking distance of the Old City and the center of town. The entire hotel was renovated in the last few years. The hotel has an attractive courtyard, built from Jerusalem stone, for outdoor dining and formal events. The hotel has different restaurants and can cater for between 10 and 1000 guests for meetings and receptions. The whole hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Zion

This hotel is smack in the middle of the the famous Ben Yehuda street pedestrianised area where there are plentiful boutiques, shops and restaurants. The rooms are simple, spacious and tasteful and include all the basic necessities. The stunning reception and dining area offer a full bar and seating on many balconies which overlook the crowded streets. Location is the hotel's best attribute. It is close to the New City, the Old City Walls and Jerusalem's nightlife. Be forewarned, decibel levels on the street may seep into your room.
