Hastings Racecourse

This long-standing racecourse overlooks the North Shore Mountains and the city's busy port harbor. It has year-round live and simulcast thoroughbred racing and a variety of restaurants, lounges and grandstands for avid and newbie racing fans. The racecourse has been a Vancouver institution for decades. For a meal, choose between Jerome's Sports Bar or the Terrace; which has a view of the home stretch.

Gaia Adventures for Women

Women in Vancouver can choose from a variety of tours that range from local mountain day hikes, to three-day hiking and camping adventures in the Carmanah Pacific Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. This company specializes in nature hikes, backpacking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, custom outings and fitness training. The tours range in required ability from challenging to easy. A sampling of their tours are Rock Climb Smoke Bluffs, Backpack Garibaldi and Hike Brandywine Meadows.

Playland

Located on the east side of the city about 20 minutes out of downtown, this popular amusement park is made up of many rides, including a giant roller coaster called the Revelation and other frighteningly state-of-the-art rides. The park has a rides section for younger children and a variety of concession stands and games.

Fraserview Golf Course

If you want to play golf in a country setting without leaving the city, then Fraserview Golf Course golf course is for you. It is centrally located and private, with dense forests concealing the surrounding cityscape. Watch out for the one-and-a-half-acre pond on the 13th and the stream on the 17th and Vivian Creek on the 18th. The Fraserview Clubhouse serves "On The Go" items like hot dogs, hot and cold beverages, and snacks for uninterrupted golfing pleasure.
