Moussandra

Set in a nice and cozy atmosphere, this restaurant serves great tasting Mediterranean food. Located at Jalan Bukit Bintang, you cannot miss the quaint looking building. The lighting plays an important part with candles placed at strategic spots for a romantic meal. The overall design and setting of the place has a very traditional Mediterranean feel. Here you can sample many Mediterranean favorites such as the Tapas and meze, which is equivalent to Chinese Dim Sum. There are also special lunch promotions on offer. Fresh fruit juices are a must.

Xin Cuisine

Established in 1991, this restaurant has maintained its popularity to date. There are four private rooms and diners can enjoy classical Chinese music at lunchtime. Set meals are served at dinner. This place is so popular that you will probably hear of it before seeing it. The decor is simple as the emphasis here is firmly on the food.A notable speciality is the baked king prawns with cheese cooked Chinese style. Other specialties include dim sum and fresh seafood. Herbal and Chinese tea is served with all meals.

Carmen's Seafood

Carmen's has everything under one roof. Karaoke enthusiasts can croon their favourite songs in the private karaoke room, or you can spend hours challenging friends to pool. There is even a cyber café. The priority here is good food rather than impressing diners with fancy decor. The surroundings are simple, but very pleasant. Specialities include the goose liver, home made pasta and the fabulous Belgian chocolate cake. Another great dish is the Moroccan lamb hotpot. The extensive wine selection can be considered one of the best in town. Fresh brewed coffees are a must.

Chalet

This restaurant is all about good food with a hint of creativity and elegance in presentation. Traditional Swiss at its best is their motto. The staff members are friendly and special attention is given to non-smokers. The decor is so Swiss that you could almost imagine the snow on the outside. A lot of effort was put into it, right down to the Swiss-made crockery. Be prepared for a big helping of hearty food. Air-dried beef is one of the specialties. Also try the raclette, Beer Tartare and Fondues. The wine list presents the normal fare.

Ciao

Here you will find friendly staff, good service and great food. This place exudes elegance with a simple interior. The focus is on the cuisine although the starched tablecloths and shiny cutlery gives the place a sense of class. Here you can sample authentic Italian salami and Parma ham in the antipasto plate. Most of the main courses are excellent--special mention goes to the mixed deep fried seafood. Ciao is famous for its almost legendary pana cotta and other specialities, including Il piatto del Ciao, home-made squid ink fettuccine, pizzas and lemon tart. Speciality coffees are also available. Wines from all over the world to go with the great food.

Eden Village

This eatery is well known for its sumptuous seafood. Located on the edge of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle, it is a little quieter compared to the past. The wooden architecture and beautiful carvings add a rustic Asian feel to the place. Many traditional art pieces adorn the walls and you can be assured of privacy, as the place is very spacious. Its specialties include lobster, tiger prawns and shark's fin with crab roe seafood platter.

Peach Garden

Decorated with elegant rosewood furniture, the place looks grand with the plush red carpets and white satin tablecloths. The restaurant can seat up to 220 persons and is great for wedding dinners. Favourite dishes include the deep-fried chicken with Thai dressing and the Peking duck. The mango pudding with raspberry sauce is a real treat. Try a selection of beers available.

Golden Phoenix

Located within the Hotel Equatorial, Golden Phoenix was established in 1973. They serve set meals for lunch and dinner. A pair of phoenix, greeting guests to the restaurant in Imperial style graces the entrance. There is an attractive courtyard right at the centre of the restaurant. Monk Jumps Over the Wall is a classic luxury dish, consisting of five Chinese delicacies including abalone, scallop, shark's fin, sea cucumber and fish maw. Other specialities are the braised superior shark's fin, stewed bean curd with kai choy, and pomfret with belachan sauce. Sample the fresh fruit juices.

Heeren Hall

This is the place to find simple traditional cuisine and it is also a worthy substitute for mum's home cooking. Housed in a post-independence bungalow, it almost feels like going to a favorite aunt's house for lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried. The sizzling beef with Satay sauce is really good with lemongrass and roasted peanuts. Another good dish is the Chili Chicken with buah keras ("candlenut") in a rich and mildly spiced stew. Fresh juices are a must.

Zipangu

This fine restaurant has been listed in Malaysia's Best Restaurant guidebook each year since 1994. Truly elegant, this Japanese-style establishment is well decorated and sports a rustic look. Recommended tables would be those by the floor-length windows, overlooking the small Japanese-inspired garden. Although the menu may not be extensive, it is sure to satisfy. Everything Japanese is served here from sushi and sashimi to sukiyaki, shabu-shabu and tempura. The quality of the raw fish is exceptional. Sake or beer is available.

Shanghai

Shanghai offers set meals for lunch and dinner and is quite famous for its business crowd. There are five private dining rooms—suitable for business lunches. Sporting a classic Chinese setting, a beautiful lacquered Chinese folding screen can be seen at the entrance while several large murals of luck-bringing storks and Chinese calligraphy adorn the walls. The Szechuan hot and sour soup is a pleasant start. Do not miss out on the much sought-after Vegetable of Kai Lan with Garlic. Other specialties include Hong Kong dim sum, pancake with crispy bean curd and Fried Dover Sole with Black Bean Sauce. Drinks served include soft drinks, fresh juices and hot Chinese tea.

Shang Palace

Shang Palace is located within the classy Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur, right in the heart of the city. The color theme for this place is predominantly in the imperial-yellow Chinese motifs, exuding an ambiance of fine dining. There are tables with a view for the non-smokers. The restaurant provides fresh ingredients in their food with an extensive a la carte menu. Dim sum is their pride especially the Har Kow and Char Siew Bau. Other recommendations include the double-boiled chicken and sea whelk soup with cordyceps. A variety of beer is available.
