Brasserie Léopold

A short walk from the Tourist Office and the Place de la Rotonde, this brasserie can be recognized by its splendid art déco style windows. It is an institution in Aix-en-Provence. It serves Provençal specialties, such as the Grand Aïoli (provençal garlic mayonnaise) as well as dishes from the Alsace region, for example Seafood-Sauerkraut (big portions). The tempting dessert buffet is a perfect finishing touch to your meal.

Les Deux Garçons

Located on the most famous street of the city, the Cours Mirabeau, this brasserie is part of Aix's artistic and cultural heritage. The 17th-century café, whose décor is listed as a monument historique, has been host to Cézanne, Zola and Lamartine. Nowadays, the terrace is the place to be seen, and lets one enjoy the simple seafood dishes that are available.

Icône

Icône is a friend of stars, and most notably of Johnny Hallyday. The atmosphere is convivial and unpretentious, the recipes simple but perfectly prepared: home-made lasagna and ravioli, sensational charcoal-grilled pizzas and top quality grilled meats. The photographs hanging on the wall are a reminder of all those evenings spent after the shows, with the proprietor surrounded by famous artists from the last twenty years.

Chez Jo

This is a true Aix landmark. For years now, people have been enjoying wood-fire baked pizzas, fresh pasta, grilled meats, Italian and provencal specialties in the dining-room or on the terrace. This welcoming, warm place, located on a pedestrian street, is always packed and the owner welcomes you like an old friend. Pizzas, ranging from the traditional, basic Margarita to more elaborate creations. This is prefect for a dinner with friends or before a movie.

Yoji

Located steps away from the Cours Mirabeau, this soberly decorated restaurant is a true ambassador of Japanese cuisine. The Sushis and Sashimis Raw Fish dishes are all absolutely fresh; the Tempura light and tasty, and the Seafood Fondue and Korean-style barbecues are all made with skill and precision. As soon as it is warm enough, the shady terrace and private garden are perfect for enjoying this light, well-flavored cuisine.

Le Bistro Romain

Located on the main street of the town, this bistro is part of a well-known chain. Lunch is served both inside and on the sheltered terrace in fair weather. A wide selection of inexpensive dishes are available, including Beef Carpaccio (as much as you can eat!), Salmon Lasagna, Beef Pavé, and Duck Breasts. The service is friendly, efficient and quick,  the perfect recipe for success.

Les Deux Freres

Les Deux Freres is a trendy lounge-like restaurant run by two brothers. They serve sumptuous cuisine prepared with care and passion by one of the brothers. The atmosphere of the place is good for a full meal shared with family and even for a quick coffee and chat with friends. Being a family venture, guests are treated with warm and attentive service. The place is open daily, except on Sunday evenings between November and March. Check website for details.

Laurane et sa Maison

This restaurant, situated in the historic district, is dedicated to salads in all imaginable shapes and forms! On returning from the market, Laurane creates delicious salads to your liking from fresh, high-quality ingredients straight from the market. The home-made desserts are also well worth discovering.

L'Aixquis

Located in the town's historic center, this restaurant is dedicated to the art of cooking. Delicious dishes are served in a romantic decor, while the menus and specialties change with the seasons. Scallops Grilled in Olive Oil, Fillet of Red Mullet with Artichokes and the magnificent selection of cheeses are but the prelude to the enticing paradis of desserts (nothing make believe here for sure). It's the perfect moment to declare your feelings and joy! Set menus are available for (EUR 14) weekday lunchtimes to (EUR 56).

L' Amphitryon

Bruno Ungaro in the kitchen and Patrick Lesné in the dining room have combined their talents successfully to offer original and flavorsome dishes prepared from fresh market produce, served in a pleasant and cool indoor garden in the heart of the town's historic center. From Mediterranean vegetables (like tomatoes, eggplant and peppers) to succulent meats and seafood, this medley of flavors is prepared with love and perfectly presented. The service is impeccable, efficient and always friendly.

Antoine, Côté Cour

Not far from the Cours Mirabeau lies a tiny piece of Tuscany in the shape of this restaurant. Dedicated to Italian cuisine, the winter garden is decorated in warm colours and filled with plants with dining space on the summer terrace. You can enjoy the famous antipasti, a large selection of fresh pasta served with your favorite sauce or Osso-Bucco (braised veal shanks), with a divine Tiramisu for dessert. The service is efficient with a welcoming smile.

Antoine Trattoria

A whole selection of Italian specialties from Milan to Naples is served in this small, friendly and convivial restaurant. Seafood antipasti, fresh pasta cooked to perfection, melting escalope à la milanaise and a wonderful tiramisu (a dessert made from strong coffee, double cream and chocolate), are just some of the perfectly prepared delicacies on offer.
