Peacock Café

Established in 1976, this is one of Jakarta's classiest eateries, exuding an aura of luxury with its lace curtains and sumptuous leather sofas. Open 24 hours, the café serves Asian food only, including such culinary delights as Yaw Hoy from Thailand, Chicken Tandoori from India and Beef Teriyaki from Japan. The lunch or evening buffet is good value for those wishing to sample as wide an array of dishes as possible. All kinds of beverages are available, alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Star Deli

This Hollywood-themed restaurant specializes in gourmet burgers and freshly-made sandwiches bearing the names of well-known celebrities such as Winona Ryder, Madonna and Drew Barrymore. The menu also includes favorites, such as nachos, fajitas, fish and chips, and spaghetti. Upon entering the restaurant, you will find yourself in a dim rectangular-shaped room. Photos of Hollywood stars covering the walls evoke the diner era of Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s. An adjoining room incorporates a pool table and private bar, which serves the usual selection of bar drinks.

Tea Addict

Located in the popular expat enclave of Kemang in South Jakata, Tea Addict is an oasis for tea lovers. The fashionable lounge features extremely comfortably sofas, making it the ideal place to catch up on the latest gossip from your friends–and, of course, to enjoy a fine cup of tea. A stupendous range of teas are available–well over 100 at the last time of counting. Iced Mint Green Tea with a dollop of ice cream or mango and lychee flavored Javanese Black Tea are some of the more exotic options to choose from. The café also serves popular food items like pizzas and fettuccine if drinking all that tea makes you a little peckish!

Red Square

Hello comrades! In need of some vodka? Then head to Red Square, Jakarta's first Russian themed Vodka bar. There is no dance floor as such, but after a vodka or two, visitors soon start dancing on the nine meter vodka "show" bar. The bartenders also like to show off a bit, so be prepared for the nightly show when they juggle vodka bottles with special fire effects. Definitely not to be missed. Besides the huge range of vodka based drinks, quality Russian cuisine is also available. Try the excellent Beef Stroganov. Be sure to bring a jacket or something warm with you. It's cold!

Stix

A spacious steak restaurant and bar located in the basement of the Park Lane Hotel in the Casablanca area of Kuningan. The restaurant specializes in U.S. and Australian beef, with the smallest portions starting at 150 grams. The cuts are superb and have that 'tend to melt in your mouth' quality. All kinds of beverages are available from the bar. A live band, which plays mostly easy-listening pop and rock songs, livens the place up from 10p-1:30a M-Th and 10p-2a F & Sa.

Toscana

This popular restaurant on the main street of the expatiate enclave, Kemang, offers a large menu of traditional Italian dishes with the occasional Asian feature. Spicy sauce, to illustrate, is served with the Smoked Salmon starter. There is a vast pizza selection and some delicate fish dishes or try the hearty Linguini with procuitto, lightened by a generous scattering of the trademark basil leaf fried in a transparent envelope of filo pastry. Desserts include extra-light coffee pudding and ice creams. The full bar service includes some inexpensive Italian wines.

Anatolia

Located in the plush expatriate enclave of Kemang, this small but comfortable restaurant specializes in authentic Turkish cuisine. As Turkish food can be quite heavy and filling, those with small appetites should probably skip the appetizers and move directly on to the entrees. Choose from such delights as Shawarma Iskandar (a doner kebab of sliced mutton, layers of pita bread with tomato and butter sauces) and chicken shish kebab. Drinks include a wide array of non-alcoholic drinks, wines and wonderful Turkish coffee.

Brasserie

Located in the heart of the expatriate enclave of Kemang in South Jakarta, this stylish restaurant is the talk of the town. With European paintings and hanging antique lamps, a Parisian ambiance permeates the restaurant which incorporates a long wooden bar and a small library lounge. Crisp white tablecloths and large wine goblets adorn each table. The menu embraces authentic southern French cuisine, with a wide selection of appetizers, main courses and desserts. For drinks, choose from a selection of wines, locally brewed and imported beer and soft drinks, as well as tea and coffee.

Hong Kong Cafe

A franchise of Asian eateries from Singapore, Hong Kong Café is highly recommended for its central location, delicious menu, and affordable price. The long menu keeps guests pondering the choices available, but don't think too much because nearly everything is appetizing. The rice combo (beef, chicken, fish or combination of two) is an easy pick for lunch, while baked rice or spaghetti brings Asian and Western cooking together. The chicken & salted fish fried rice and Chicken Boxing are exceptionally great and anything from the instant noodles list is brave enough to bring the street-culture to a somewhat off-street restaurant. Desserts are revelations for mango and coconut fans, from puddings with fruity sauces and peeled pomelo, to ice creams.

SHY

SHY has been all the rage since its debut in 2006 for its chic setting, romantic ambience and quality French cuisine. Guests can choose from two different menus, one a petite version and the other one a la carte. Either way, the creations by chef Stefan Zijta is inspiring. Taste SHY's terrine of foie gras d'oie for the starter, beer-fed Wagyu beef tenderloin with oxtail ragout is tender and rich but not overly so, and on the dessert side, three interpretations of chocolate are too much a temptation to resist. You can bring your own bottle of wine, but expect a corkage fee.

Prime Steak House

There is nothing more satisfying than a perfectly cooked steak. Whether you prefer your steak rare, juicy or well-done, Chef Frank Koppelkamm's culinary team at The Ritz Carlton's Prime Steak House make sure you have the best at your table. Seafood lovers will relish the Lobster Bisque with Cognac and Coriander Foam; enjoy the after-tastes with a wine from their extensive wine collection or brewed coffee. Like restaurant Portovenere in the same hotel premises, guests can avail of the private dining rooms for 10 people or more. Lilting music by the jazz pianist(Monday to Saturday) and delicious food set the mood for a romantic dinner at this fine-dining restaurant.

Classic Rock Stage

Featuring nightly live performances by talented local artists, this café allows lovers of classic and heavy metal rock music to dine on local delights to the accompaniment of their favorite guitar riffs. College students make up a large proportion of the clientèle. Feast on local favorites such as fried rice or noodles, or keep in tune with the Cafe's theme by sampling a burger. Wash it all down with beer or a cocktail. The decor also has a local flavor, featuring rattan chairs, round tables and a wooden stage.
