Laguna Beach, CA

Growing up, this was always my favorite beach to go to. Great waves, beautiful surroundings and never too far from the car when your sandy and wet. Those years seem far distant now, but whenever I go home to visit, I always look forward to a cup of coffee on this beach with my mom, as early in the morning as we can get there.

Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical Gardens: Directions

As kids when we came here it was always for the whole day. We'd spend hours exploring the museums and the lawns, petting the koi fish, hiding in the bamboo, and after lunch, running through the sprinklers on the big lawns. I didn't feel my husband had really seen where I grew up until we took him here last year.

Doheney

Sunday after church, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends would all meet here for a hot dog and marshmallows roast. Dad and Uncle Ed would bring their guitars and we'd sing all night!

Orange Circle

Start out with brunch or a burger at Watson's Drug Store, then wander around the quaint antique stores.

In-N-Out Burger

Always the first stop when we get picked up from the airport!

Oak Canyon Nature Center

My brothers and I loved to spend the day hiking and 'tracking' on the extensive trails here.

Mission San Juan Capistrano

Breathtaking, and much more peaceful than almost anywhere else. Don't forget your camera!

Santa Catalina Island, California

You can spend an entire day (at least) touring Avalon. If you want to do any hiking or camping, that's at least another day. My favorite stops here were the Casino (the big round building on the point), the glass bottomed boat tours, and ice cream in the plaza!

Farmers Market

This market has been in operation for 75 years (a long time for California!) Every kind of merchant you can think of is here, and all kinds of places to find a yummy lunch. I got some fabulous, very authentic enchiladas here, complete with a glass of horchata, mmmm! It's also next door to The Grove, a posh outdoor shopping mall. Perfect for meandering around after a leisurely lunch at the market.

Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Museum

Beautiful grounds and museum of a controversial American leader

Disneyland Resort Anaheim California

If you can't get a resident's annual pass (the BEST way to do the Disneyland Resort), try to get a several day, two-park pass or plan to go on a "bad weather" (e.g. rainy) day. The crowds will be far less bothersome and you'll have much more fun.

Mission Inn

So, this is where my husband and I got married, which probably makes me a little biased, but we had a fabulous time at the Mission Inn (if you're not sure, that's us in the picture). We highly recommend it.
