Dahabiya

The hottest ticket in Egypt these days is private, luxurious travel on what’s called a Dahabiya. These Dahabiyas were common during the days of the monarchy (1920s-40s) when aristocrats and sophisticated travelers loved to cruise the Nile in style. They rented the boats for weeks at a time and made their way from temple to temple enjoying the river breeze. They were popular amongst those who wished to enjoy Egypt at a leisurely pace, to drink in the landscapes, and peruse the monuments and villages on the riverbanks.

These Dahabiyas can be yours to enjoy privately or rented out by room. A staff of 10 will take care of you and look after your every need. The vessels boast a variety of rooms - Standard, Superior, and Suites.

Backpacker Concierge has an excellent contract with the amazing Dahabiya featured, contact us for more information - http://www.backpackerconcierge.com

Felucca

A private, full-service felucca is glamorous in its own special way, offering home-cooked Egyptian food, locally-brewed beer, and friendly Nubian hospitality.

Passengers enjoy their days and nights on a giant mattress that dominates the felucca. The roof is removable for those that enjoy sunbathing. The chef will whip up an array of local cuisine from the on-board kitchen.

The most traditional way to travel the Nile!

Camels in Bahariya or Sinai

Multi-day camel treks can be done in a variety of places in Egypt, but we think the two best places are near the White Desert and the St. Katherine Protectorate. It's best to avoid the summer heat and to bring very loose-fitting clothing - you'll enjoy the local hospitality and have the pleasure of enjoy things at a slower pace, rather than running from place to place.

4x4 Motorbikes

Egypt isn't just about visiting site after site - it's also about adventure and getting off the beaten track. 4x4 excursions in the Theban Mountains of Luxor are a great way to see the country.

Sleeping Train

The Abela Sleeping Train is more of an 'experience' than a '5-star experience'. It's a great solution for the budget traveler - $60 for transport, accommodation, and 2 meals - not bad! The Sleeping Train operates from Cairo to Luxor and onwards to Aswan (and backwards). Tickets are quite scarce these days and booking early is key.

Average price: US$ 60 /person for Double and US$ 80/person in Single. Prices are expected to go up significantly in the near future.
