Hôtel Villeneuve d'Ansouis

The architecture of this family home is very characteristic of the 18th century, but the building is rare in that it is one of few edifices constructed soon after the plague of 1720, which killed nearly a third of the population in some parts of Provence. The Hôtel (mansion) was built in 1740 for the Villeneuve d'Ansouis family. The facade is split into three parts, separated by Doric columns after those used in the Parthenon.

L' Hôtel D'Olivary

L'Hôtel D'Olivary, located in the historic neighborhood of Mazarin, was built in the seventeenth century as a grand residence for a single family. Today it serves the city of Aix-en-Provence as a meeting center for cultural and private events. The building is well preserved in its classic glory, and is surrounded by a charming French garden.

Quartier Mazarin

Situated in the Southern precinct of Aix-en-Provence, Quartier Mazarin was created by the brother of Cardinal Mazarin in the last half of the 17th Century. It features an impressive assortment of carefully planned private hotels built by members of parliament and other prominent pillars of bourgeois society. In addition to these epic estates, one can find numerous gardens through the quarter as well as the famous Fontaine des Quatre-Dauphins.

Ecole Des Arts Et Metiers

Founded in 1780, the Ecole Des Arts Et Metiers or ENSAM started as an institution to provide training for military officers. Gradually the school became an institution for arts and engineering. The students body organizes several programs and they have created their own tradition and culture. A total of 1,050 students receive their master's and doctoral degrees from this institute every year.

La Place de l'Hôtel de Ville

La Place de l'Hôtel de Ville is the center of beauty and history in Aix-en-Provence. It is flanked by the many architectural wonders that were built around the mid 1600s. It includes the La Tour de l'Horloge or Clock Tower with its original structure built in 1510. The tower itself underwent many changes and additions and served also as a military outpost. It is fitted both a bell and a modern astronomical clock and four imposing wooden figurines depicting each sesaon. At the foot of the tower lies the city hall or L’hôtel de Ville. This classic building overlooks the the square and till date is the center of city's activities such as flower markets, parades and feasts. Lastly, the square is adorned with the La Fontaine de l'Hôtel de Ville sculpted by Jean Chastel Pancras that marks the exquisite beauty of the era. Altogether this town square continues to be the heart of the magic and a must see in Aix-en-Provence.
