Uerige

One of the most popular pubs in the old town, Uerige is famous for its Altbier, a strong, dark concoction which is brewed on the premises. The ambiance is friendly and informal, so don't be surprised if the waiter joins you for a beer. All beers are automatically replenished when the glass is empty, so if you don't want any more, you will have to tell the waiter. With its huge copper beer vats and long wooden tables, the decor is rustic and extremely typical for this part of the world.

Zur Uel

Good old Zur Uel belongs to the Ratinger Straßen fixtures. That is to say, nobody knows exactly how long it has been there. But one thing is clear: even thought the decor in the two large rooms is not what one would describe as spectacular, the old town would not be the same without the Uel. People of all ages love the place and on warm summer nights (in particular Wednesdays and weekends) the Uel and the rest of the Ratinger Straaßen delta is a paradise for students and other Dusseldorfers. Holds 120 seated, 100 standing and 50 in the garden.

Sutton's Irish Pub

Sutton's Irish Pub exudes a genuinely soothing Irish coziness. The shimmering light and of course the great Guinness make even a German's heart beat faster. The pub turns into a party zone at the weekend, in which homesick Irish and  youngsters let loose to golden oldies and Irish rock music. The kitchen is not typically Irish, but the burgers, tapas and pizza are very tasty. Everything is reasonably priced.

La Copa

Before one pays a visit to the 'longest bar in the world' in Dusseldorf's Altstadt, one should not miss a stop off at this professional Spanish tapas bar. Senor Lopez's staff is dedicated to creating over 60 different types of tapas, to keep their customers coming back for more. These small hispanic snacks (a common feature of which appears to be garlic oil) are an ideal way to lay the foundations for a trip to a few bars. Whether it's the wind-dried salami, grilled onions, marinated chicken or shell fish and prawns that tickle your fancy, you're bound to find something to suit everybody's taste here. A good tip: a red navarra is a choice tipple to start you off in the right frame of mind.

Malkasten

Malkasten consists of a funky nightclub, beer garden and spacious restaurant with views of the park. The clientele is mainly well-off, well-dressed and good looking. The prices are naturally, considering the clientele, quite high, although with this in mind one would expect better service. You will need to dress up to make sure you get by the doormen. Check the website for the timings of the beer bar, brunch and Sunday lunches.

Brauerei Im Goldenen Ring

A heated legal battle between landlord and the old tenant over the real meaning of the term 'decent upstanding citizen' ended in the swift termination of the previous lease. It seems that the tenant had attempted to establish a quite unconventional bar for 'artists' and Düsseldorf's gay scene in this old fashioned local which offended the owner's idea of 'good sense'. Now, the atmosphere is quite different, offering 'decent upstanding' food in accordance with local traditions. This new pub and restaurant does come across as very professional, offering typical local wholesome meals such as Rheinland 'Sauerbraten' (braised beef) with raisin sauce and potato dumplings.

Brauerei Schumacher

Schumacher Alt beer has been brewed here since 1838. Even without music the decibel level is high, which is a good indicator of Brauerei Schumacher's vibrant atmosphere. The menu leaves nothing to be desired and the prices are very reasonable. The clientele is mixed and the beer is so tasty that your glass will be empty before you know it.

Piazza Saitta

The restaurant and bar Piazza Saitta is a paradise for lovers of the Italian cuisine. Only imports from Italy are on offer here and are tastefully displayed in the window as well as at the counter. Alongside the sumptuous choice of antipasti, customers can find 50-60 types of Italian cheese alone, from sheep's to goat's cheese, as well as delicious sausage and ham specialties such as goose salami and ostrich ham. In addition to this, olive oil, various pesto variations, Tuscan fig cream and much more is available. Prices are somewhat high though. You can also have a tasty snack while standing at one of the tables at the rear end of the shop.

Monkey's Club

Cheap drinks, excellent music, and a crowd that can't get enough of the groove, are some of the things that you can expect to find at the Monkey's Club. If you are looking for a place to party, this is where the buck ought to stop. Visit this place to check out some of the grooviest DJ sets in town. The Monkey's Club is also a great club to visit if you are looking for a place to let go of your inhibitions, and dance the night away. Call for additional information.

Dr. Jazz

Dr. Jazz is a venue which spills great live music. Different genres from R & B to Rock & Roll or the local favorite jazz; they all are played here with full zest. Many local and other popular bands regularly entertain the people coming to this pub. Please check the programs' list on their website to know about the latest performances, especially on the weekends.
