Teatro Alhambra

This theatre puts on an enormously varied programme of events throughout the year, including flamenco, modern drama, classic theatre, contemporary dance, musicals, comedy, puppet theatre and more. There's usually something to entertain every age range. Pick up a leaflet from the tourist office or the theatre itself for further details. The price of seats varies according to the show and there are concessionary discounts for students, children, senior citizens and groups. You'll find it in the charming Realejo district at the foot of the Alhambra complex.

Orquesta Ciudad de Granada

The city orchestra has made a name for itself in Spain and overseas performing at prestigious events like Granada's own International Festival of Music and Dance, Barcelona's GREC Festival, Seville's Teatro Maestranza and Switzerland's Gstaad Festival, to name a few. It has worked with great soloists, conductors and groups like Plácido Domingo, Carmen Linares and El Orfeón Donostiarra and has recorded works by Tomás Marco and Manuel de Falla, among others. It took a long time to form, eventually making its public debut in 1990 led by Juan de Udaeta. The present musical director, Josep Pons, took over in 1994.

Auditorio Manuel de Falla

You'll want to get dressed up in your best outfit to mingle inconspicuously with Granada's "in" crowd, who tend to frequent their home orchestra's productions in this 2500-seater concert hall. The prestigious Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (Granada City Orchestra) use it as a base and usually perform the work of well-known composers to an appreciative audience. The usually formal atmosphere changes during festivals, when tourists, locals, jazz fans and tango aficionados get together in the same hall. It's used as a venue during the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza (International Music and Dance Festival), Festival Internacional de Jazz (International Jazz Festival) and Festival Internacional de Tango (International Tango Festival). The hall was built to honour the composer, Manuel de Falla, who lived and worked here on the side of the Alhambra hill for 20 years during which he created some of his most enduring and internationally famous music.

Carmen de las Cuevas

If you've always wanted to learn flamenco dancing, guitar or rhythms (clapping), then this family-run school has a course for you. Besides beginners' lessons, there are also intensive courses at an intermediate or advanced level. The school also offers Spanish language and culture courses, at a number of different levels, and it can organize private lessons for you. It's housed in a lovely cármen (whitewashed Moorish mansion) between the neighborhoods of the Albayzín and Sacromonte with breathtaking views of the Alhambra. Students have 24-hour access to the books and videos in its well-stocked library.

Cine Granada 10

There aren't many of these old-fashioned cinemas left and it's worth coming just to admire the décor. The building began life as a theatre back in the 1930s and many of the original features have been preserved, like the opera house-style balconies, the enormous chandeliers and neoclassical-style plasterwork. You can sit in one of the luxuriously upholstered golden sofas or take one of the plastic chairs if there's no room, and see the film on the single large screen. Unlike in modern cinemas, you're still allowed to smoke. Later on at night this place changes into a popular and atmospheric disco. 10. Check listings for timings.

Plaza de Toros de Granada

Plaza de Toros de Granada is a bullfighting ring which has 14,500 seats, where you may also find other events such as concerts or big exhibitions. It has restaurants, clubs and bars underneath the seating, independent from the events. One of Granada's beloved landmarks, do not miss out on a visit to this historic ring.

Sala El Tren

The 'Sala El Tren' is  a music venue, known to host a number of concerts. This is one of the most happening places in Granada, which is full of energy and life. The venue has live music concerts and some of the best DJ performances. This place is a must to visit if you are a music lover. The venue hosts a number of shows every month, so look for upcoming shows and be there. Arte Cafe La Tertulia

Arte Cafe La Tertulia is a great venue for all kinds of cultural events in Granada. La Tertulia hosts everything from flamenco concerts to film nights to comedy acts and dance classes. The walls of La Tertulia are adorned with special art exhibitions as well, making this not only a quality venue, but a gallery as well.

Centro Cultural Caja Granada de Puerta Real

A mostly community funded organization, the Centro Cultural Caja Granada de Puerta Real is into organizing cultural activities and exhibitions from all over. The centre has a space of around 3500 square meters, dedicated to a museum solely. Designed by architect Alberto Campo Baeza the centre also has a theatre that regularly hosts live acts as well.
