Society of Seven

This tight-knit ensemble of talented local performers has been entertaining visitors for years. Their show is a fast-paced, high-energy show that's guaranteed to keep you entertained. The group is all male, and most of the members look as though they could be related. Of course, the fact that they often dress identically helps to enhance that impression. They perform Broadway show tunes, favorite local songs, impersonations and hilarious comedy skits.

Creation: A Polynesian Odyssey

The days of early Hawai'i and the South Pacific are revisited in this wonderful show. It begins with legends, chants and hulas, and then progresses to the Pan Am Clipper times of the 30s and finally the pop culture and surfer-oriented 50s. Tihati Productions pulls out all the special-effects nightly in the Sheraton's large Ainahau Showroom. The musical sound track is dynamic, the singers and dancers practiced and delightful. Dinner is at 5:15p (USD62) and cocktail seating (USD32) at 6p.

Royal Hawaiian Band

Founded by order of King Kamehameha III in 1836, this band has remained a part of Hawaii's life throughout its evolution from a monarchy to a territory to the 50th of the United States. It is the only full-time municipal band in the country. It travels extensively, performing at various locations the world over. It also performs at Iolani Palace on Friday at noon and every Sunday at 2pm at Queen Kapiolani Park. Call or check the Web site for information on other performances.

Mamiya Theater

Located in a private boys school, this is a favorite venue for smaller-scale productions on O'ahu. With a seating capacity of 500 and basic light and sound equipment, the theater provides a low-cost space for small productions. Musical theater events, both community and extracurricular, are offered here regularly. Local musicians perform often, and church groups rent the space for large lectures. Manoa Valley Theatre

Local talent presents the latest and greatest Broadway and off-Broadway plays year-round at this small Manoa theater. While the shows aren't Broadway quality, they're performed with zeal and imbued with local flavor. Past productions have included 'Of Mice and Men', 'Tommy', 'Side Show' and 'The Complete History of America' (Abridged). Call for timings and ticket prices. The box office is open on weekends when shows are on.

Kumu Kahua Theater

Kumu Kahua Theater, fondly nicknamed as Kumu, is a community theater set up to provide a platform to the Hawaiian talent. Founded by professor Dennis Carroll to promote experimental theater, this 100-seated theater produces plays with local themes and tales. Artists, directors, designers and the entire cast and crew comprises only of locals. Apart from plays, it also hosts classes and workshops to improve acting and writing skills. Honolulu Theatre for Youth

Honolulu Theater for Youth is the only professional theater in Hawaii. It caters to the young and restless crowd that has untapped potential. The theater reaches vast audiences from different backgrounds and ensures that the relevant social messages reach them. Plays, classes, activities and workshops are organized to assist the educators and families, with the sole aim of making todays generation culturally literate and develop an ability to tackle the issues faced in the real world. John F. Kennedy Theater

The Kennedy Theater, opened in December 1963, was designed by the renowned architect I.M. Pei. Named after President Kennedy, the 600-seat facility theater not only provides a platform to the students of University of Hawaii, but also exposes them to the international productions and different stage techniques right from lighting to stage back-drop. It can rightly be called the center stage of the University.

Hawaii Repertory Theater

Hawaii Repertory Theater was established in 2005 to provide the Hawaiian audiences meaningful and diverse theater. The young artists get a chance to work with professionals and can also display their skills in front of larger audience. Hawaii Repertory Theater also co-produces plays with the talented students of local schools, encouraging performing arts of all types. It can rightly be called the foundation of world class dramatic literature.

Stan Sheriff Center

The Stan Sheriff Center located on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, is a multi-purpose arena. This 10,300-seater arena has been a home to the volleyball and basketball teams men's Rainbow Warriors and women's Rainbow Wahine.
