Thang Loi Hotel

Back in the early 1990s many business travelers had no option but to stay in this hotel. It is well situated on the banks of West Lake and dates from 1975 when Vietnamese allies from Cuba helped to build it. It is very popular and offers many facilities, the lodge has its distinct personality and can be described as cozy. Clientèle includes European, American and Asian guests. Some rooms are built over the lake, allowing for opportunities to enjoy a good, romantic sunset.

Hanoi Hotel

The Hanoi Hotel is a rather unattractive tower block next to Giang Vo Lake, but it is well situated between the western business districts and the central part of town. It serves a mixed clientele and is popular with Vietnamese and other Asian businessmen. A full range of facilities is offered, including Chinese restaurants, a massage parlor, a nightclub and karaoke systems. Rooms are comfortable and adequate.

Hoa Binh Hotel

The three-star Hoa Binh Hotel lies just two blocks from the Opera House. Built in 1926 and originally named Le Splendide, the hotel can comfortably accommodate business and leisure travelers alike. It offers a French-cum-Vietnamese restaurant, along with the standard amenities. Guests will find staying at the Hoa Binh convenient with Hanoi's major shopping area only a short walk away.

Ngoc Son Temple

This temple sits on a small island on the north end of Hoan Kiem Lake. These days, souvenir and art shops take up as much space as the historic and religious displays. Even so, the island is a nice place to escape the noisy streets that surround the lake. The temple honors some scholars and military heroes, but perhaps its most interesting draw is a preserved turtle corpse. This turtle was found in 1968, and some believe it old enough to be the legendary turtle of the lake's mythology.
