The Ecomuseo del Caserío Vasco is situated in a picturesque setting, off Nacional 240 motorway (Bilbao-Vitoria-Gasteiz), km 26. The building is meant to resemble a typical Basque country-house from the 16th century. For centuries, the Basque country-houses were entirely self-sufficient, a fundamental factor behind Basque wealth and culture. The purpose of this museum, then, is to depict the habits and life of the Basque villagers, from those days. The permanent collection of this eco-museum consists of 700 antique items, both inside the house and outside in the surrounding garden. You'll find the bedrooms and the kitchen, as well as everyday items, including traditional medicines, wool, tools, carpentry items and a selection of equipment used for tilling the land, harvesting and transport. There's a carvery and tavern to eat in and a shop selling books, ecological products and crafts on the ground floor.
