Hogan's

This is one of the most popular bars in the city centre and it's not difficult to see why. Two spacious floors accommodate hordes of affluent twenty-somethings and the mood is understandably upbeat. The ground-floor is quite chic in the daytime when you can appreciate the beautiful wood-carved bar, but at weekend nights you'll be too busy trying to attract the barman's attention to notice the décor. Hogan's is also the place for a late pint: it stays open until 2:30a at weekends.

The Cobblestone

Given the fact that the Smithfield Square area is currently undergoing a major facelift at the moment, it's quite likely that the Cobblestone will become extremely popular in the not-too-distant future. At present, however, the pub offers traditional music in an authentic Dublin setting, featuring live music at the weekends. The upstairs venue also plays host to a variety of traditional, folk and rock acts. It's always worth a visit, particularly on a Saturday night when the spectacular gas lamps in the adjacent Smithfield Square are burning brightly.

Whelan's

An integral part of Dublin's music, Whelan's front bar is convivial and relaxed, with an intimate music venue that's the real heart of the place. It's a great spot to catch some of Dublin's better bands; there's a strong contemporary country or roots slant to a lot of the acts. On weekends, a club follows the gig so you don't have to rush home. Check the local listings for what's on, and tip your hat to the eerily lifelike sculpture at the bar.

The Henry Grattan

This friendly Dublin pub has recently been renovated, but retains many of its original features, most notable of which is the ornate bar, which was originally salvaged from an old Dublin cinema in the late 1970s. Downstairs alternates between being a disco and a live music venue, and the Henry Grattan is certainly worth a visit if you're in the Baggot Street area.

Hard Rock Cafe Dublin

Ireland is famous for its great bars and pubs, but the Hard Rock Cafe at Dublin could give most of those pubs a run for their money. The place is a must-visit for Eric Clapton fans because the cafe has several Clapton memorabilia and also various instruments, lyrics and posters of other famous rock stars. Famous for dishes such as the New York Strip Steak, Herbed Grilled Chicken Breast, Twisted Mac and Cheese, Hickory Smoked Pulled-Pork Sandwich and amazing array drinks such as Chocolate Malt, Sorbet and Vanilla Malt, the place is sure to satisfy even the fussiest eaters. With parties and live performances scheduled throughout the year, this is one of the most happening spots in the city.

RiRa

With the Globe Bar located just upstairs, RiRa is a two-for-one deal if you get your hand stamped on the way in. But if you don't feel like relaxing at the bar, then RiRa is the place to be.  Lives bands and DJs keep the music going nonstop and your feet will hardly be able to keep from moving.  If you get there before 11:30pm, then the club is usually free, although there is a cover later on in the night.

The Cavern

When you hear of a place being described as the best and finest underground clubbing space, it doesn't need any further introduction. The Cavern is one such club, ever-growing in popularity with its line-up of club nights and live music shows. The DJ nights are not to be missed as that is when everyone gets in true clubbing mood, spending the night in the company of dance and friends.

Think Tank

Trying to bring in a different element to usual clubbing, the Think Tank presents shows of all kinds. Formerly known as the Hub, their focus is on bringing new talent to the notice of people by presenting exhibitions of their works. Check the website for further details on exhibitions and performances.

Le Basement

Jazz lovers thoroughly enjoy an evening in Le Basement located on Dame Street. The likes of Emilie Conway and Johnny Taylor have performed here, giving jazz aficionados an unforgettable experience.

The Green Room

Brace yourself before you enter the electrifying Green Room. Tucked in the ground floor of The Academy, this room has a capacity to admit easily over 500 people. You can catch some of the most electrifying live and DJ music here. Bands from around the world have their gigs here. Rock, pop, hip-hop, r&b and more can be enjoyed at the Green. DJs do a great job on the turn-table, spinning the right mixes for you to get on the floor. Do drop by at this exciting hub of entertainment.
