Mango Tropical Cafe

This is beach-front dining with a tropical theme. The café menu features island-inspired lunch and dinner entrees as well as average American fare (sandwiches, pizzas and bar appetizers). The wait staff is definitely an attraction, sporting skin-tight, leopard-print uniforms. The occasional group dance routine keeps things interesting for diners and passers-by alike. Things really heat up around 9p, when a live band plays upbeat Latin music. It can be hard to maneuver past the businessmen and tourists who come here to down shots, so come early.

Lost Weekend

In the midst of the South Beach glamour and hype is this very low-key dive bar. It is right next to the über-stylish Blue but is its exact opposite. Very much a local hangout, it is also a great place for visitors to get a break from the relentless fabulousness that is South Beach. You and a group of your friends can kick back, down USD2 shots (made with things like Goldschlager and Rumplemintz,) and play pool or foosball.

Aero Bar

This upscale venue has two rooms, each with a different and distinct atmosphere and musical selection. Surely this club is bound to attract many Miami hipsters looking for something new beyond the clubs on Washington Avenue.

Live music Wednesdays and Ladies' Night Thursdays. If your looking for a wild time, this bar doesn't mess around.

Club Tropigala

This supper club inside the elegant Fontainebleau is a tribute to 1950s Miami. Three floor shows are presented each night. The Miss Florida National, a gender-illusionist beauty pageant, is held here every year. Both the food and the atmosphere are tropical, with fruity umbrella drinks and Caribbean food served amid lush surroundings. Graduated seating leading down to the stage assures good viewing. The place is open from 8.30 pm from thuesday to thursday and sunday. On friday and saturday it is open from 8 pm onwards.

The Room

The Room gets crowded on the weekends, when people come out for the great beer selection, with many domestic and foreign brews. Local rock and indie bands keep things fun and vibrant on a regular basis as well. The staff is friendly and won't keep you waiting, stop in here for some fun after work.

RAIN

This is the latest place to see and be seen. Celebrities patronize the place regularly, but the entrance policy is not too strongly enforced. Once inside, the place is worth it. The 8,000-square-foot space stretches indoors and outdoors. The elliptically shaped bar is a work of art and shimmers beautifully with the 100-foot-high, color-changing glass ceiling. Outside there are teak reclining daybeds attended by cabana boys dispensing drinks and towels! From classic drinks to the latest fad, you can drink anything. The best DJs work there regularly, so dancing is part of the scene. The ambiance is totally unique and so SoBe! - Mercedes de Marchena
