Clarke Quay

Formerly a chain of 19th century shop-houses, Clarke Quay now has more than 50 shops selling everything from silk wear and batik prints to home furnishings and antiques. At night, a carnival mood prevails, with street stalls, restaurants, theme pubs, bars, and alfresco eateries coming to life. For dining with a local flavor, savor satay (Malay kebabs) at the Clarke Quay Satay Club. A bumboat ride from Clarke Quay Jetty down to the mouth of the Singapore River lets you relive the old days when these boats carried cargo instead of tourists.

Que Pasa

Located in a 1910 Peranakan shop house,Que Pasa is highly popular with the expatriate crowd. With benches, wooden tables and large wine barrels doubling as table tops, rustic charm prevails. The second level is more relaxed and practices the policy of bottle sales only. This wine bar houses a large selection of wine, port, sherry, Spanish tapas and cigars. It also carries San Miguel Premium beer as well as the local Tiger brand.

Yami Yogurt

Yogurt is a healthy dessert that you can take to beat the heat. Well, the yogurt sold here tastes just like yogurt and not pretend ice cream. The best-selling flavor is peach (with real fruit!). Every once in a while, new flavors such as boysenberry are available. Toppings include nuts and wheatgerm. You can also get milk shakes (papaya and banana). Advance orders are available. For orders of at least SGD20, free delivery within Suntec City and Millenia Walk is offered, except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Yami Yogurt suits all tastes.

Molly Malone's Irish Pub

This is a cosy Irish pub, the first to open in Singapore. The dark green exterior makes it hard to miss. Occasionally, live music is provided when guest bands from Ireland drop in for a visit. Ever since this pub opened in 1995, business has been brisk. Guzzlers and regulars alike keep coming through the door for their regular pints of Guinness and Kilkenny. Food-wise, try the Buttered Day Fillet with French Fries, and the traditional Fish and Chips. Happy hours are till ten every night. It was conferred the "Newsweek International World's Best Bar 96" award.

Ice Cold Beer

Located in a 1910 shophouse, this bar offers more than 35 varieties of local and imported beers. Cosy and relaxing, it is a hit with both locals and expatriates. Listen to soothing classic rock from the 60s and 70s, while having a go at a game of darts or pool. The nine-inch hot dogs are well worth a try and you even get to choose the toppings. Selections range from chopped onions to French or American mustard and pickled relish. And while you are here, it will be insane not to try the beers available. The beers are chilled in glass tanks and served, well, ice-cold!

Hooters

This 6,000 sq-ft restaurant serves great food served by their famous waitresses. The restaurant is also frequented by celebrities and local stars. Food is typical American cuisine, be sure to try their special 'chicken wings,' the perfect snack to enjoy with an ice cold beer. With fun activities and delicious food served well, this place sure hoots and honks to keep grabbing people's attention!

Zouk

Undoubtedly the most popular club around, this is where famous visiting DJs are invited to spin. Munch on hot dogs or sandwiches along with that beer. 'Mambo Jumbo Night' on Wednesdays is the most popular event. Queues start forming as early as 8p, comprising mainly tertiary students and local army personnel. Fridays cater to the alternative and cool crowd with house music. Spacious and modern, Zouk occupies an old warehouse and offers a huge dance floor with two platforms. The Member's Bar on the second level is usually crowded. Zouk's bouncers are strict, so think twice before you decide to misbehave.

Harry's Bar

Besides serving up a good variety of American cuisine for lunch and dinner, this bar is reputedly the best place on the island for jazz. The popular Bank Breaker cocktail is named for notorious merchant banker, Nick Leeson--a regular before the law caught up with him. Live music entertains from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, aspiring musicians gather for a special jam session in the evenings. This bar has been named a Great Heineken Bar of the World. In addition, it was conferred the World's Best Bar award by Newsweek International in 1995.

Bar & Billiard Room

Established in 1896, this bar is known as The Connoisseur's Haven. The atmosphere projects a distinctive Old World style with offerings of Cuban cigars, port, sherry, cognacs and even chocolates. Of course, you can also play billiards in the elegant surroundings. In the evenings, savour light jazz sounds from the house band from Monday to Saturday. It is unfortunate that this bar is most famous for being the spot where the last tiger in Singapore was killed as it cowered under a billiard table.

The Long Bar

Famous for originating the Singapore Sling, The Long Bar is known to both tourists and locals alike as the place to go for this unique concoction. Like the name suggests, the interior is indeed long. Tourists generally visit this classy bar after touring the world-renowned Raffles Hotel. Similarly, many business professionals can be seen unwinding here. The dress code is smart formal. Although all cocktails sold here are generally of a good standard, most people still go for the Singapore Sling.
