Mah Boon Krong Center

This mall opened in 1985 and is one of the oldest shopping centers in Asia. It has 8 stories and 2 food courts that are remarkably good with tons of variety. Great place to hang out and cool down while acclimating to the heat and humidity.

Chao Praya River

Riding in a public river taxi or a dinner cruise, you can see both the modern skyscrapers as well as old temples and architecture along the banks of the river.

Fruit carts

All around Bangkok you will see vendors selling fruit: pineapple, watermelon, papaya. They chop into bite-size pieces and put in a plastic bag with a long toothpick. Sweetest pineapple you’ll get for less than a US$1.

Damnoen Saduak

This is about 65 miles south of Bangkok in the Ratchaburi Province. At this market all of the vendors (with their produce) and shoppers are in boats.

Chatuchak Market

Weekend market with over 15,000 stalls, including live animals, meat, fish, snacks, handmade paper, Thai handcrafts, music, art, clothing, prepared food, flowers, plants and more.

Pak Klong Talad

Bangkok’s open air flower market, where the flowers are often in piles on newspaper.

Wat Arun

This temple (also called Temple of the Dawn) is on the west side of the Chao Praya River, and the best place to photograph it is from the opposite side of the river since it is so tall.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) is the largest temple in Bangkok and is known for having both Thailand's largest reclining Buddha. The gold-plated reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high. The temple grounds include over 1000 Buddha images as well as the center for traditional Thai massage.

Grand Palace

The Grand Palace includes the previous royal residences, government buildings, Wat Phra Kaew and many chedi. This is one of Thailand’s most sacred sites and has a strict dress code. Appropriate clothing and shoes can be rented by the entrance.
