The city of Boston has a past that is reminiscent of America's glorious history. Being the largest city in the state of Massachusetts, it draws a major influence from its Irish-American residents. Though also comprising of other ethnic communities, it has nurtured a unique cuisine, culture, lifestyle and accent for itself. One of the oldest cities in the US, Boston caters to all who seek a little fun in historic environs.

Boston is one of the cleanest and prettiest cities in the east coast. It is much nicer than New York City but also offers many things to do. It was voted one of the best cities in the world to grow up in and is a very unique place with a lot of American history.

Bean town is home to many an Irish folk. Therefore, Saint Patrick's Day is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. The Saint Patrick's Day Parade draws over 600,000 visitors and spans three whole hours. The parade is held in South Boston and begins at the Broadway T Station with the ending all the way over at Andrew Square. Arrive early and put your party face on because the people of Boston will not allow for any dull moments during their most coveted Saint Patty's Day celebration!


Beantown is also a huge beer town. Their Oktoberfest is actually many, with no shortage of brewpubs and opportunities to celebrate, each with its own flavor. Here are the most popular:
Harpoon is one of the biggest microbreweries and celebrates at their brewery on Boston's waterfront the first Friday and Saturday each October. www.harpoonbrewery.com
Beer Summit and Samuel Adams will throw their 2009 Oktoberfest do at the Park Plaza Castle on September 11 and 12. www.beersummit.com
Attend the largest Oktoberfest in New England at the Boylston Schul-Verein German Club and School, September 12 and 13, 2009. www.germanclub.org
More than 100,000 people will visit Harvard Square Sunday, October 11 (raindate October 12) for their single-day Oktoberfest honoring German culture and Boston's ethnic diversity. www.harvardsquare.com

The history! Oh and the food!!! I loved to visit Boston when I was at WPI and would really like to take the kids for a visit.

The shopping, the restaurants, the picturesque views... need I say more? How about the tea?
