At 277 miles long, 10 miles wide, and a mile deep, The Grand Canyon is the biggest canyon on earth and contains some of the oldest exposed rock on earth. The canyon was brought to national attention following a semi-successful expedition 1869, led by John Wesley Powell. Despite many attempts to take advantage of the canyon's natural resources, it became a national park in 1919 and continues to be one of the most popular parks for not only US visitors but international visitors as well.

I worked at the Grand Canyon for 5 years. Working with people from all over the world and all walks of like was such a beautiful expierence. As for the Grand Canyon, pictures do no justice to the place.
If it is your first trip to the Grand Canyon, make sure you go on a Bus Tour out to Hermits Rest, or to Dessert View. Also, go prepared with a good pair of hiking boots. DO NOT take brand new boots, bad idea. Make sure you carry water, even if you are just hiking the rim. A good hike is from Mather point back to Bright Angel Lodge. Don't forget your camera and extra film. If I ever go back I would like to hike from the North Rim to the South Rim. It's only about 26 miles.
Good Luck, and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Went to the Skywalk for the first time this June. Flew on a small fixed wing aircraft from Bolder NV. Flight took 30 minutes, we flew over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. The Skywalk is glass and there is nothing below you except 4,000 feet!! A little scary at the beginning but you get used to the fantastic view of the canyon below you and enjoyment takes over from fear!! The Skywalk is about a 4 hour drive from the Grand Canyon National Park so flying there is the best way. I really recommend this especially for those who have visited the National Park

It is one thing to see it from the rim To truly experience this canyon you need to get into the canyon. Hike it, Mule ride it or even better take a raft trip down the Colorado.
Tips - It is sandstone stay back from the edges. It takes twice as long to come up as it does to descend. Drink plenty of water and remember that you are at altitude.
