During the Christmas season Piazza Navona is packed with stalls selling toys, sweets and decorations for the Nativity scene or Christmas tree, making it a favorite spot for children. Its unusual shape recalls the time of Domitian, who built a stadium for equestrian displays here. The Fountain of the Rivers, with the obelisk, and the Fountain of the Moor, with the God of the Sea, at the center of the square, are both sculpted by Bernini.

Piazza Navona (Navona Square) was founded in the place of the Stadium Domutiun that Romans called Circus Agonalis (Competition Square) for the games (agones) that were taking place here. Starting from the 15th century the Piazza that has a perfect rectangle shape was initially used for a city market, and then as a place for theatrical performance and horse races.

Now Piazza Navona is home for three fountains. The most famous one is the Fountain of Four Rivers, the masterpiece of Gianlorenzo Bernini built in the 17th century. The Fountain is built around the Egyptian obelisk and generally consists of four sculptures of River Gods that represent four main rivers of the world: Nole in Africa, Ganges in Asia, Danube in Europe and Rio de la Plata in America.

Around Piazza Navona there are a number of expensive cafes and restaurants. During the day and at night you can find here a lot of street musicians, jugglers or other performers.

Piazza Navona is a city square in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the ancient Roman Stadium of Domitian, built in first century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium.

One of my favorite places in the world!

Near this place there's a great ice-cream shop, with enormous produts and low prices (10 years ago...). I made jokes with my friends, about the strange effects of them in us... I don't know what more can I add about Navona, only I'm planning to return again as soon as possible to take another ice cream with my best friend!

I think it is a beautiful place with many exiting things too see i stayed in this arena for a little while it was very conviennt and everybody was very friendly and kind and i hope to go again soon

Its a synthesis of modern and classical italy; highlighting the modern architectural genius of present italy while still showing the beautiful and traditional landscapes of ages past

it was fun and enjoyable and i got lots of food and it wasnt hot but wasnt cold and had a nice atmosphere and sold lots of food like pizza and pasta which i love

Just a great place to spend the afternoon or evening here you can enjoying great food, beautiful buildings and watch the world pass by.

i loved the different entertainments you can see over there. there is also a fountain in the center. the obelisk on top of those fountains make it look higher.

The market was again moved in 1869 to the Campo de' Fiori. The piazza long hosted theatrical shows and horse races. From 1652 until 1866, when the festival was suppressed, it was flooded on every August Saturday and Sunday for elaborate celebrations of the Pamphilj family.

The Piazza Navona contains two additional fountains, sculpted by Giacomo della Porta: the Fontana di Nettuno (1574), located at the northern area of the piazza; and the Fontana del Moro (1576), located at the southern end.

the atmosphere, restaurants, artists, having your sketch drawn from one of the artists. Just sitting and watching people interact. It's just Rome at it's best
