Named for a martyr from Roman times, St. Pancras Parish Church is really unusual. Built in the early 1800s at the height of the Greek Revival, its square vestries on the north and south sides were built to resemble the Erechtheon on the Athens Acropolis, with four classical caryatid figures carrying the weight of the world on their heads. The church's steeple and front facade were designed after another Athenian landmark, the Tower of the Winds. Just across the street from Euston Station and a block from St. Pancras Station, it's worth stopping to take a look if you're on your way to catch a train. And if you're staying in the Russell Square/Bloomsbury district, you might even catch one of the church's free lunchtime concerts.
