Experience America’s historic places on this wonderful family vacation. This educational and fun trip begins in Philadelphia with a sightseeing tour of Philadelphia’s major sights, including Liberty Bell and Independence National Historic Park. Travel to an Amish farm to learn of their culture and their way of life that excludes the use of modern conveniences, such as electricity and telephones. Visit Hershey’s Chocolate World and sample the real Hershey’s product. Then travel to Gettysburg National Military Park, recount the Battle of 1863, and dare to take a ghost tour where haunted sightings of soldiers are common. For even more history, go back in time in Jamestown, where costumed historical interpreters depict daily life two and three centuries ago. At the Colonial Williamsburg historic area, enjoy a guided tour where costumed villagers add authenticity to the quaint streets. Drop in at Raleigh Tavern, the meeting place for Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other patriots. Visit Mount Vernon, the restored home of George Washington, and tour the house, gardens, and gravesite. Finally, end your trip in Washington DC with a tour of the International Spy Museum and a sightseeing tour of the major highlights, including Arlington National Cemetery and the Vietnam, Korean, and World War II Memorials. Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Philadelphia, PA

. (Sun.) Welcome to Philadelphia! This evening, mingle with your fellow travelers and a historical personality at a 7 pm welcome dinner. Later, your Tour Director prepares you for your upcoming adventure. (D)

Day 2: Hershey’s Chocolate World & an Amish Experience

. (Mon.) Morning sightseeing focuses on the important buildings of Philadelphia, the birthplace of the nation. Major attractions include the Liberty Bell and Independence National Historic Park. Next stop is an AMISH FARM & HOUSE, where a Local Guide explains this faith, culture, and traditional way of life that excludes the use of modern conveniences such as electricity and telephones. While here, enjoy an Amish lunch. Continue to Hershey for a visit to HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE WORLD. Experience chocolate making from bean to bar at a simulated factory and, of course, get a sample of the real Hershey’s product! (B,L)

Day 3: Walk the Battle Lines of Gettysburg

. (Tue.) Today at GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK, recount the Battle of 1863 and examine the experiences and emotions of the Southern soldiers in battle. This afternoon is free to enjoy at your leisure—perhaps relax at your hotel’s pool! This evening, enjoy a Colonial candlelit dinner at the elegant DOBBIN HOUSE TAVERN, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Later, a guided GHOST TOUR takes you to some of the quaint houses and gentle fields in and around the town of Gettysburg, where scores of haunted sightings of soldiers, moving again in battle lines, are common. Day 4: Jamestown Settlement

. (Wed.) Travel south to JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT, where costumed historical interpreters depict daily lives of people two and three centuries ago in faithfully recreated settings—a Powhatan Indian village, three replica ships that sailed from England in 1607, and a Colonial fort. This evening in Williamsburg, enjoy a COLONIAL-STYLE DINNER at a famous local tavern. You’ll have an opportunity to engage in a recreated supper experience savored by 18th-century patriots. (B,D)

Day 5: Step Back in Time at Colonial Williamsburg

. (Thu.) Enter COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG’S HISTORIC AREA for a guided tour where costumed villagers add to the authenticity. Stroll down its quaint streets, browse through the historic trade shops, and see the Public Gaol. Also, drop in at Raleigh Tavern, the meeting place for Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other patriots. While here you will have the chance to vote for or against independence, join the militia, or participate in the Election of Burgesses. This afternoon is at leisure, or you may join an optional excursion to nearby Busch Gardens with thrilling rides and attractions, 10 main stage shows, and a wide variety of foods and shops. (B)

Day 6: Explore Mount Vernon

. (Fri.) Head north for a visit to MOUNT VERNON, the restored home of George Washington. Tour the house and gardens, and visit the gravesite. Continue into the nation’s capital, Washington DC, where you will tour the INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM, focusing on human intelligence and the role spies have played in world events throughout history. Explore interactive exhibits about disguise, surveillance, threat analysis, and more. Try our optional dinner tonight at one of Washington’s favorite restaurants followed by an illumination tour of beautiful monuments. (B)

Day 7: Sights of Washington DC

. (Sat.) Your half-day guided tour features ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY with the KENNEDY GRAVESITES; the VIETNAM, KOREAN, and WORLD WAR II MEMORIALS; and many other well-known sites. Also stop for photos at the White House and Capitol Hill. The afternoon is free to pursue your favorite interests. Maybe visit the Smithsonian Institute, Georgetown, the National Cathedral, or other prominent monuments and museums. This evening your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner, the perfect end to your vacation. (B,D)

Day 8: Washington DC

. (Sun.) The vacation ends this morning after breakfast with guests departing on individual schedules. Airport transfers are provided. (B)

Traveler profile

Most passengers are 40s-70s, especially catering to retired couples. Almost exclusively Americans.

Group size

Globus usually books a maximum of 52 passengers on their buses. There is seating for 55.

Tour directors

Bus drivers and tour guides are Globus employees but your tour will also include a few local guides. Globus tours guides are very experienced (minimum of 10 years experience before Globus will hire them) and often spend many years with the company.

Hotel type

Generally stay in centrally located 3 and 4 star hotels.

What's included

Most city tours included which include the most popular sites in each destination. Optional excursions, special dinners, etc. are extra. Some meals included and some of the meals include wine, etc.

Free time

Leisure time is built in to most destinations. Even more leisure time if you opt out of the extra excursions.

CANCELLATIONS & CANCELLATION FEES:
If cancellation is received by Globus before the final payment date of your vacation, your non-refundable deposit and Travel Protection premiums will be retained in addition to any airline-imposed fees or penalties. For individual reservations, the following per person cancellation fees apply. Total price does not include discounts, promotions, or special incentives.
