About this tour

Family FYI: Did you know that dinosaur footprints 165 million years old (Jurassic Period) were found near Shell Falls in 1997? Discover the best of Wyoming travel and the old west during your family's Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone vacation.

Put on your cowboy boots and hats and get ready to experience two
spectacular national parks of the great American West, and learn about
the lives of cowboys then and now during this Grand Teton and
Yellowstone vacation. Raft down a river looking for wildlife that lives
in the parks. Attend an authentic Wild West rodeo and take a trail
ride, accompanied by real cowboys. See the huge stone faces of four
great American presidents at Mount Rushmore and view the progress at
the gigantic memorial honoring Crazy Horse. With two-nights stays at
lodges right inside two national parks and an overnight at a working
western ranch, there is something amazing around every bend during your
family's South Dakota and Wyoming travel adventure.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton Nat'l Park

A transfer is included from Jackson Hole Airport to Jackson Lake Lodge
in the heart of Grand Teton National Park. Meet the new friends who
will enjoy this Grand Teton and Yellowstone vacation with your family
at our welcome reception and dinner.

Day 2: Raft down the Snake River and explore the Grand Tetons

Marvel at the incredible scenery of Grand Teton National Park,
including sparkling Jenny Lake, before setting off on a rafting
adventure* down the Snake River. Along the way, your guide will help
you spot the beavers, eagles, elks and other animals that live in the
park. Spend some time in the historic town of Jackson and check out
some of the fun things to do at Jackson Lake Lodge. During your Cowboy Country
journey, you'll also have a unique chance to work along with fellow
guests and park experts on a special service project as part of Tauck's
award-winning on-tour volunteer program in America's national parks.

Day 3: A close-up look inside Yellowstone National Park

Today you'll travel from the Grand Tetons to America's first and most
famous national park, spectacular Yellowstone – where your "home away
from home" for the next two nights is just steps away from the famous
Old Faithful Geyser! Keep an eye out for Yellowstone's diverse wildlife
as you explore some of the famous features of the park -- whose
geologic wonders include two-thirds of all the geysers in the world –
with your Tauck Director.

Day 4: Mud pots and more on a perfect Yellowstone vacation day

Start your day in remarkable Yellowstone with a wildlife-spotting walk;
endangered species from whooping cranes to gray wolves are protected
here. See some of the 10,000 hot springs within the park, as well as
bubbling pools of mud and volcanic calderas with an expert local guide;
and, a short distance from your lodge, watch mighty Old Faithful shoot
its plume of steam high into the air just about every hour – a
highlight of any Yellowstone vacation!

Day 5: Learn about Buffalo Bill's West and go to a rodeo

Say goodbye to Yellowstone and head across Wyoming to historic Cody,
founded by the famous "Buffalo Bill" Cody, from whom the town got its
name. Glimpse the history, culture and art of the heyday of the
American West at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, where multiple
museums each tell a different side of the story. Have a western dinner
and then thrill to bucking broncos, steer wrestlers, calf ropers and
barrel riders at a real western rodeo tonight.

Day 6: Bighorn Mountains and The Ranch at Ucross

Journey through Wyoming's beautiful Bighorn Mountains today, past deep
canyons, vast grasslands, and blankets of wildflowers to The Ranch at
Ucross, a real working ranch, for a memorable overnight stay. Ranch
experiences include an opportunity to go horseback riding*, fish for
trout in Piney Creek or a stocked trout pond, swim in the pool, pitch
some horseshoes or even hunt for frogs! Your time at the ranch is
certain to be one of the highlights of your Grand Teton and Yellowstone
vacation; top the night off with an old-fashioned campfire.

Day 7: A tale of two carvings – Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore

Depart the ranch and head for the Black Hills of South Dakota. Look up
in wonder at the Crazy Horse Memorial, where you'll view the work in
progress as artisans carve the likeness of the famous Lakota warrior
out of the mountain; when completed, it will be the largest rock
sculpture in the world. Then it's on to view the towering stone
portraits of four American presidents at Mount Rushmore, one of the
must-see landmark sights in the U.S. Join us for a farewell dinner this
evening, and share delightful memories of your Cowboy Country Grand Teton and Yellowstone vacation.

Day 8: Journey Home

Tour ends: Rapid City, South Dakota. Fly
home anytime; a transfer is included from K Bar S Lodge to Rapid City Regional Airport. Allow a minimum of two hours for
flight check-in.

Both of my grandchildren loved the rodeo in Cody. We thought the Buffalo Bill Museum there was fantastic. One of the best museums I have been in. I really can't think of any place we visited that we all didn't enjoy. The entire week was fantastic, even the volunteer work, painting the fences in Teton National Park!

Tauck packed in a lot of amazing things in one week. The tour guide was wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable. Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and the Ranch at UCross were the best parts. We easily could have skipped Cody and the second day at Mt. Rushmore/Crazy Horse and spent more time at UCross. That ranch was magical! The food could have definitely been better, and there wasn't a lot of time to do our own thing. Overall, it was an amazing trip (yes, that word again) and I would do it again. If my family and I had tried to do that same trip on our own, we would have never accomplished so much. My sons, 8 and 11, had a great time with their cousins and the other kids they met on the trip. They are still keeping in touch with a few of them. The memories we made on that trip will last a lifetime!

The entire trip was well done-I would extend it though - add a day to Lake Louise, so we could be there a full day - that is a MUST! I would also add a day to Jasper - take nothing away! We have also done the Canyonlands and Tetons with you. AWESOME trips!

A thoroughly enjoyable vacation. All aspects of the trip were planned to see that my wife and I had a good time. I personally would have wanted to modify some of the times spent at various locations along the way but all in all everything was top shelf and very enjoyable. We met many fine folks from around the country and they seemed to have the same experience.

Fabulous tour leader - extremely knowledgeable.Felt it was a waste of time going all the way to Carlsbad would rather have started nearer to White Sands National Monument and had an extra day in Santa Fe as there was so much to do there. going to a morning of balloon festival was an added bonus and was delighted that we were taken there even though not on Itinerary - it is good that Tauck takes advantage of local events.

Wonderful trip. Tour guide, John Kneiper, was the best 5 star. As was our bus driver, Lyle Gilbertson, was 5 star.too. Sorry to here you are not running this tour for a while. Accommodations were 5 star. This was our 8 Tauck tour and everyone, except one to Nova Scotia, were the super. Tauck was very good about giving us a credit for our problems with the Nova Scotia trip. You don't have to worry about word of mouth. I tell everyone about you as you are the only tour my husband and I will take. You have us spoiled.

I hope you stay in business as long as we're alive and you keep up the wonderful work. Much success!

Again, a top flight tour. Except for the fog, though California would not be California without fog, the trip could not have been better. We saw places that we would not probably been able to see -- Pebble Beach, behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo. Highly recommend the trip, our third one with Tauck and more to come.

We had problems because of low river levels and missed many important stops. It was not handled very well by the Tour Director. She seemed frazzled and frustrated. She was snappy at times.

We missed several important stops and it was very disapointing. At one point we were told by the Director that we would be going to Salzburg Austria to make up for our missed stops, but we didn't, and it was never mentioned again.

We had to pack our bags and change ships in the middle of the trip. We were glad to change, but it was a huge inconvenience.

The Tour Directors that spent the days with us were excellent. They made up for many problems. They were informative and made the trip fun.

The food was satisfactory at best. The ship and our accommodations were excellent.

When we returned home we fully expected to recieve some sort of acknowledgment of our dsapointing trip in the form of a future discount or some sort of credit. We recieved nothing. Frankly we are shocked at this. Our travel agent has contacted Tauck to let them know what we had expected still nothing.

We had planned to book a future trip with Tauck to either Autralia or Asia. We have recently decided to book our trip with another company.

This was a great trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable and we had plenty of time to see everything at the sites we visited. We always felt very safe with Tauck. The weather in May was very hot so I would suggest going to Egypt in the winter months. Also, several people in the group became ill. Be sure to talk to your MD prior to the trip about precautions to take and medications to bring with you. The Tauck staff was very helpful in securing medical care for those who became very sick.

Our 1st Tauck trip was great. We enjoyed the non-regimented dining, the interesting facts given by our tour director, the excellent choices accommodations. Only "bad" grade would be for the final dinner in Caesar's Palace. The cocktail hour apps consisted of nuts on the table ONLY and the dinner choices were "okay". My evaluation was handed in before this experience, so it had not been noted. I would give the total experience an A, but the farewell dinner only C-.

I had entirely too much fun. It is, however, important to listen carefully to the the tour director in order to take advantage of the opportunities at each stop since time is limited. However, I would not recommend deleting a site in order to spend more time at others but you might extend the trip a day or two. For example, I would have liked another day at Grand Canyon and maybe Zion.

My wife and I have already booked a trip for next year, Classic New England, to see the fall colors. We have already told our friends and family about this trip to the Canyonlands. We were fortunate to have spectacular weather for almost the entire trip. Blue skies and golden leaves made our natural parks even more gorgeous. The biggest highlight among many for Harry was the flight over Lake Powell to Monument Valley. For me it was walking the paths in Zion Canyon. But Antelope Valley has to be very near the top for both of us. No wonder this is one of Tauck's best selling trips. Late spring might be a time to consider doing this trip when you have significantly more daylight to enjoy walking and seeing the vistas. Our overall rating would be five stars.

Trip was great! We thought when we hit the Grand Canyon we would like more time there--until we got to Bryce! Bryce was THE BEST!! A little longer at the Grand Canyon would be good, to explore the Canyon more, added time at Bryce would be terrific!

Excursions were all VERY well done, especially the plane around Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon tour, and boating at Glen Canyon.

If you want to see the sights anywhere you go, go with Tauck!! They know where to go, and everything is planned to perfection! They make traveling fun, meaningful and EASY!! And you meet great people! We still stay in touch with some!

(We liked being able to chose to travel with a smaller group too!)
