    Day 1: Arrive in Naples and head to Sorrento

    A transfer is included from Naples International Airport to Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Tauck's Classic Italy tour begins in the southern resort town of Sorrento, where your hotel overlooks the beautiful Bay of Naples and powerful Mt. Vesuvius. Get to know your fellow travelers at a welcome cocktail reception and dinner.

    Day 2: Amalfi Coast drive – a southern Italy tour highlight

    Drive along the Amalfi Coast, one of Europe's most dramatic shorelines. Stop for visits in Amalfi with some houses dating to the 10th century, and Ravello, perched on towering cliffs above the sea. Explore Sorrento’s piazzas as you please upon your afternoon return.

    Day 3: Explore Pompeii, then on to the Eternal City of Rome

    Your Tauck Italy tour next explores the excavated ruins of Pompeii, buried in volcanic ash when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Walk through city streets with a local expert, where you'll discover remarkably preserved ancient architecture. The next three nights are spent at The Westin Excelsior, Rome, one of the most prestigious addresses on the famed Via Veneto.

    Day 4: Tauck Exclusive – Private after-hours Vatican Museums visit

    Sightseeing in Rome is highlighted by a special Tauck Exclusive – an after-hours guided visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (day of the tour may vary). This after-hours visit means you'll avoid the long lines and the usual crowds found earlier in the day. The experience is rich when you explore the treasures in the Vatican Museums at your own pace; see the Candelabra Gallery, Map Gallery, and the Tapestries. In the Sistine Chapel, gaze in amazement at Michelangelo's masterpiece ceiling – and be able to contemplate all that you see in quieter surroundings.     Day 5: A day in Rome of the Caesars

    A sightseeing excursion begins the day. In Rome, first capital of ancient Italy tour the Colosseum; see Circus Maximus, the 4th-century BC stadium where chariot races were held, and the ruins of the Imperial Palace. View the Roman Forum from above, then return to the microstate of Vatican City for a tour of St. Peter's Basilica to view the art and architecture, and explore St. Peter's Square. Pursue your own passions in Rome during the afternoon. You'll get a real taste of Italian cuisine this evening when you dine at a traditional restaurant.

    Day 6: Your Italy tour continues with a Duomo and a wine tasting

    Journey to Orvieto, set on a 984-foot plateau overlooking vineyards below. Visit the Duomo of Orvieto, a notable Romanesque-Gothic cathedral built over a span of 300 years. After a trattoria lunch near the Piazza del Duomo, continue through the wine-producing regions of Umbria. Arrive in Torgiano, a small village in the Tiber Valley. Hotel Le Tre Vaselle, your home for the next two nights, is a 17th-century country house hotel with its own private vineyard - an opportunity to experience Italy's privileged country life.     Day 8: Traces of Italy's medieval days

    In the hilltop town of San Gimignano, see 13 medieval towers that were built in the 12th century by the nobility as both private fortresses and symbols of wealth. Stroll along the narrow streets and visit Piazza della Cisterna, one of Italy's most picturesque town squares. Continue your travels through lush Tuscan landscapes to the seaside resort town of Viareggio, where you'll dine à la carte this evening.

    Day 9: Cinque Terre storybook villages

    Visit Cinque Terre, accessible only by sea for hundreds of years. Journey by train through the mountains to one of the villages for a look at daily life in this remote part of Italy. You'll have time to yourself to wander through the town's cobblestone streets, where you'll experience daily life – from colorful fishing boats home from the sea to the wine, olives and citrus fruit produced locally. Cruise along the Mediterranean shores of the Italian Riviera aboard a private boat – views of these centuries-old villages, set on rocky bluffs hemmed in by steep cliffs, are a knockout! Journey on to the Renaissance city of Florence for a three-night stay at one of Italy's finest hotels, a Luxury Collection Hotel by Starwood.

    Day 10: Become an art aficionado in Florence

    Experience Florence, where the arts flourished between the 13th and 16th centuries. Learn about art history from a local art history lecturer, then take a walking tour of Florence. A guided tour of the Galleria dell'Accademia introduces you to some of the world's great art treasures, including Michelangelo's marble statue of David. You'll have time on your own in Florence this afternoon; your hotel is right in the heart of the city, which makes it easy to explore!

    Day 11: Masterpieces of the Uffizi

    Join a local expert for a guided tour of the Uffizi Gallery, Italy's extraordinary art museum. Admire some of the world's greatest art masterpieces, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Botticelli, and more. The remainder of the day is as you please; you may want to visit the Pitti Palace, the Medici Chapels or stroll across the Ponte Vecchio to the lovely Boboli Gardens.

    Day 12: Rail trip to Venice and a serenade aboard a gondola

    Tauck's Classic Italy tour continues with a journey by the sleek, fast Eurostar train to Venice. After lunch, head to St. Mark's Square, the heart of Venice, with a local guide for a walking tour.     Day 1: Arrive in Prague

    A transfer is included from Prague's Ruzyne Airport to the Prague Marriott Hotel. Meet your fellow travelers and Tauck Directors for a preview of your Danube River cruise at tonight's grand kickoff event – a royal welcome reception, tour and dinner at 16th-century Lobkowicz Palace at the Prague Castle, accompanied by a classical quartet!

    Day 2: The legacy of many centuries in Prague

    Start today's exploration of Prague in the ancient Hradcany (Castle) district, where you'll see 1,000-year-old Prague Castle's complex of palaces, courtyards and gardens; visit the Cathedral of St. Vitus and enjoy a Tauck Exclusive – a private tour of Strahov Monastery's grand Baroque libraries. You're free to spend the afternoon as you please in Prague, or join us if you like on a walking tour of Prague’s Old Town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's home to the Astronomical Clock and Tyn Church – along with Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square.     Day 3: • Ancient Regensburg / Danube River cruise begins

    Drive to the well-preserved German cathedral town of Regensburg, whose roots stretch back to Roman days. Your local guide leads you on a walking tour that includes the Steinerne Brücke, a medieval stone bridge over the Danube; the Gothic Dom St. Peter; the 15th-century town hall; and the remains of the town’s Roman wall. Enjoy lunch on your own – perhaps opting for some of the town's celebrated Bavarian sausage – before boarding the riverboat in Regensburg to launch your 7-night Danube River cruise.

    Day 4: • Spend the day in lovely Passau

    Enjoy the views from your riverboat's sun deck, lounge, or the windows of your outside cabin. Your first port of call is Passau, Germany; accompanied by a local guide whose love for Passau is evident, take a walking tour through the cobblestone streets of this Baroque town renowned for its lovely stained glass and nearly 100 churches.     Day 8: • Along the Danube to ancient Slovakia

    Pursue your own interests this morning in glorious Vienna – which boasts over a hundred museums of all kinds – and then return to the riverboat to continue your Danube River cruise to Slovakia. Gliding along the "river of kings," admire the pastoral scenery and immerse yourself in Slovak culture aboard the riverboat, as you enjoy a taste of regional cuisine at dinner – and join in as Slovakian folkloric entertainers in traditional costumes perform for you.

    Day 9: • Baroque in Bratislava

    Wake up today in ancient Bratislava, capital of modern Slovakia – and, strangely enough, the long-ago capital of Hungary! Your local expert shares insights and anecdotes about this beloved city on a guided walking tour; view several Baroque Habsburg-era palaces, the Opera House, Slovak Philharmonic Hall and St. Martin's Cathedral; visit the 13th-century Old Town Hall; and savor some delectable Slovakian pastry at a local café. After some exploring on your own, return to the riverboat and celebrate your memorable cruise with the Captain and crew at the  Captain's shipboard farewell reception and dinner tonight.

    Day 10: Goodbye, riverboat... hello, Budapest

    Your extraordinary Danube River cruise ends this morning in Budapest, Hungary, split into the sections of Buda and Pest by the Danube River. After disembarking your riverboat and bidding the crew farewell, explore the city's Buda side on a walking tour of Castle Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; see Fishermen’s Bastion with its Neo-Romanesque design, and admire the stained glass windows and centuries of history in Matthias Church. After lunch at a local café, spend the rest of the day pursuing what interests you most in Budapest; later, dig into dinner at your choice of select city restaurants.     Day 11: Discover the landmarks of Pest

    The Pest side of the city reveals itself to you today on a visit to Heroes’ Square – bounded by some of the finest architectural works in Hungary – and sightseeing including the spectacular Parliament building and tree-lined Andrassy Avenue. There may be some surprises in store on a special visit to the opulent State Opera House, opened in 1884, with its gilded vaulted ceiling, murals, royal boxes and three-ton chandelier. Conclude your Danube River cruise adventure by spending the rest of the day exploring what interests you most in Budapest; you may want to stroll along fashionable Váci Utca, one of the city's grandest boulevards.     Day 1: Welcome to Warsaw

    A transfer is included from Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport to your historic hotel on Warsaw's fashionable "Royal Route." Meet your travel companions and your Tauck Director at tonight's welcome reception and dinner in the hotel, a Warsaw landmark for over a century.

    Day 2: Explore Warsaw, a city reborn

    On your first full day in Poland tour the sights of Warsaw, including the Palace of Culture, Radziwill Palace and the Jewish Ghetto Memorial. Visit the city's 13th- and 14th-century Old Town, meticulously re-constructed after WWII, on a walking tour. Enjoy a free afternoon to pursue your own interests. In the evening, attend a private piano recital in a palace that features the music of Warsaw native Frédéric Chopin.

    Day 3: Cracow, Wawel Castle and Wieliczka's salt mines

    Head across the Polish countryside to ancient Cracow, considered one of the finest medieval cities in Europe, for a two-night stay. After lunch, see Wawel Castle, the seat of Polish kings from the 11th to 17th

    Day 5: Through the Tatra Mountains, bound for Hungary

    Travel from Poland through the scenic Tatra Mountains, stopping for

    inside the Gothic Matthias Church, where the final two Hungarian kings

    Day 9: Vienna's fine arts, Schönbrunn Palace and strüdel-making

    Day 11: Goodbye, Vienna and on to Prague

    Depart Vienna and travel to Prague, the ancient capital of today's Czech Republic, where you'll spend three nights at the Kempinski Hybernská Prague, a former 15th-century Baroque palace in the heart of the city. Go on a walking tour of Old Town, linked to the castle district by the ornate Charles Bridge, lined with statues from centuries past; take in the astronomical clock, Jan Palach Square and other landmarks of this, one of Europe's best-preserved historic cities.

    Day 12: Prague's magnificent Castle District

    Explore Prague's Hradcany (castle) district today on a city tour; explore the remarkable complex of Prague Castle, one of the largest castles in the world. Built in the 9th century, it is the country’s traditional seat of power, and incorporates palaces, museums, monasteries, and halls for knighthood ceremonies. Visit the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the coronation site for Czech kings and queens, and enjoy an exclusive-to-Tauck, privately guided tour of the opulent Baroque libraries of Strahov Monastery before spending the afternoon and evening just as you please.

    Day 13: Art & pageantry in Prague

    Today's Prague sightseeing includes a walking tour of Wenceslas Square and a visit to the historic Estates Theatre, followed by a choice – an architectural tour of Prague highlighting its grand blend of styles from the medieval Town Hall to the Art-Nouveau Municipal House; or an exploration of the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), including the Old-New Synagogue, founded in the 13th century, and the Pinkus and Maisel synagogues (holidays permitting). This evening, join us for our exclusive farewell event at Lobkowicz Palace in Prague Castle, including a private tour of the palace's Princely Collections, a reception and a gala farewell dinner.

    Days 1-2: Arrive in London

    Touch down in London, England’s magnificent capital. After cleraing customs and collecting your bags, look for the the Dot2Dot desk. They will be providing your transfer to your hotel. You’ll have the rest of the day to unpack, settle in and begin your explorations of London. (B in flight).

    Accommodations: Kensington Close Hotel, 3 stars. Situated in a quiet location, Kensington Close Hotel is located just two minutes away from the shopping area of High Street Kensington. Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Harrods and Knightsbridge are a short taxi ride away. The hotel provides its' guests with modern, bright, well appointed bedrooms decorated in fresh attractive colors. The hotel has 3 excellent restaurants serving traditional English fare. The hotel's Health Spa is a superb luxury health and fitness club available to guests which includes an 18 meter heated swimming pool, beauty treatments and gym.

    Day 3: London

    Over the next three days, you may choose to discover London on your own, or join one or more of our optional sightseeing excursions and planned activities—the choice is yours. Your tour director will be happy to provide suggestions or any information that you might need. You’ll find the city easy to navigate, on foot or by subway. To better orient yourself, you may join this morning’s optional guided sightseeing tour. A panoramic bus tour takes you throughout the city, highlighting famous landmarks such as Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park, Downing Street, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. This afternoon, consider an optional excursion to Windsor Castle, the world’s oldest inhabited castle. Here you can see the royal collection of state treasures and walk through St. George’s Chapel (closed on Sundays). (B)

    London sightseeing: $99. A local guide leads comprehensive sightseeing of London. Highlights of the panoramic tour include views of Westminster Abbey (setting for royal coronations, weddings and funerals), the Big Ben clock tower, the Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, and a stop outside St. James’s Palace, where you might glimpse the ceremonial Changing of the Guard (seasonal). You’ll also visit Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece.

    Windsor Castle: $85. Founded by William the Conqueror in 1070, Windsor has been the preferred royal retreat for the last 900 years and is still in use by the Royal Family. Step inside the State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel (closed Sundays), where the Knights of the Garter ceremony takes place. View the exhibit of royal treasures on display within the castle. You’ll then have time to stroll through the town of Windsor and have a look at Eton College, a prestigious prep school that both Princes William and Harry have attended.

    Please note: Windsor Castle is occasionally closed when in use by the Royal Family; a visit to Hampton Court will be substituted when necessary.

    Day 4: London

    Linger in the city today or take our optional journey to the British countryside. Visit Stonehenge, perhaps England’s most mysterious landmark. The origin and purpose of this ring of stones, which dates back 4,000 years, remains a mystery, though most believe it to have been a temple and observatory.     Day 5: London

    Spend a final free day in London. Or discover England’s medieval past on a full-day optional excursion to Canterbury to see its glorious Gothic cathedral and the thousand-year-old Leeds Castle.     Excursions. Canterbury & Leeds: $99. Leave London for a day to tour the charming cities of Canterbury. Follow the old Pilgrims Way to the ancient walled city of Canterbury, a place of pilgrimage for many centuries. Visit the magnificent cathedral, the scene of the bloody murder of Thomas Beckett in 1170 and the home of English christianity. There's also time to explore the labyrinth of medieval streets, quaint shops and historic taverns. Then travel through Kent, "the Garden of England," to Leeds Castle, beautifully positioned on two small islands in the middle of a lake. Over 1000 years old, this spectacular castle has been a royal residence for six of England's medieval queens and a palace for Henry VIII.

    London Eye & Dinner, $115. Experience one of Britain’s newest attractions, the London Eye Ferris wheel! The world’s highest observation wheel, the London Eye lifts its passengers 450 feet above the River Thames for a 30-minute ride in an enclosed gondola. In clear weather, you can see for 25 miles around the city center! After your ride, continue on to a nearby restaurant for an included dinner.

    Day 6: Paris

    Transfer to St. Pancras Station, where you’ll board the high-speed Eurostar train to travel under the English Channel to Paris. Upon arrival, a Go Ahead representative escorts you to your hotel. (B)

    Versailles, $89. Louis XIV, known as the “Sun King,” set new standards among European royalty for the decadence of his reign.     Excursions: Giverny, $85. The Norman town of Giverny was home to Claude Monet from 1883 until his death in 1926.     Day 3: Artistic inspirations amidst the treasures of Provence

    Imagine great artists like Paul Cézanne at work amidst the spectrum of colors found in Provence as you view Mont Ste-Victoire and join your local guide for a walking tour among the fountains, squares and medieval center of lovely Aix-en-Provence. Discover the private Baux Valley estate and winery of Château d'Estoublon on an afternoon visit. Continue on to St-Rémy-de-Provence, where Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh spent one year of his life at a
    monastery that served as an asylum; his stay here resulted in a period

    Day 6: Explore Siena

    Enjoy a free day in London or take an optional full day excursion to Oxford and Blenheim Palace. Explore Oxford, the oldest and grandest of England’s universities with a visit to Christ Church College. Enjoy free time for lunch before continuing to Blenheim Palace built for John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, during 1705-1722. Sir Winston Churchill was born at Blenheim in 1874. Today, Blenheim Palace is the largest private residence in all of Britain.

    Day 5: Immerse Yourself in the City of Lights

    Day 7: Exploring the Continent: Belgium

    We board our high-speed Thalys train and head northeast to Brussels, capital of Belgium, which is over 1,000 years old and today the administrative center of the European Union. A city tour of this most beautiful European city will begin in the medieval square, The Grand Place which is surrounded by ancient guild houses magnificently decorated with soaring gables, ornate facades and incredible carvings. Here you will see the historic Town Hall, a Gothic masterpiece and the Maison du Roi as well as the Manneken Pis statue (the popular symbol of Brussels).

    Day 8: Brussels Day 2: Bruges and Ghent

Ghent is a traditional Flemish university town, where Emperor Charles V was born.     Days 1-2: Fly to Copenhagen

    Day 4: Copenhagen

    Today is free for you to enjoy Copenhagen at your leisure. Consider a visit to Tivoli Gardens, with its scenic landscapes, rides and cafés. Alternatively, follow in the footsteps of Hamlet on today’s optional excursion to Elsinore and Kronborg Castle. (B)

    Day 5: Cruise from Copenhagen to Oslo

    Spend a free morning in Copenhagen, where you can enjoy a stroll through the many pedestrian streets, including Strøget. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to the towns of Roskilde and Dragør. This evening, board your overnight ferry to Oslo. (B, D)

    Archipelago Dinner: $159. Tonight, sample Scandinavian tastes (seafood lovers rejoice) at a special Archipelago Dinner among the islands of Stockholm. First, take a romantic boat cruise to the surrounding islands, then dock at one of Sweden’s most famous seafood restaurants, dating back to the 17th century. Enjoy the very best of Swedish delicacies as you dine by the sea.

    Day 10: Stockholm

    Spend a free day in Stockholm, or join our optional Historic Sweden excursion to the ancient cities of Uppsala and Sigtuna. (B)

    Historic Sweden: $129. The ancient city of Uppsala is considered to be the very birthplace of Sweden. In addition to the tombs of the first Swedish kings in Old Uppsala, the city also hosts a 400-year-old castle, a coronation hall, an 800-year-old Gothic cathedral and Scandinavia’s oldest university. A guided tour provides an in-depth look at all of these landmarks as well as the University Museum, whose exhibits pay tribute to famous Swedish scholars, including Celsius and Linneus. Then continue to the 1,000-year-old city of Sigtuna, established by Sweden’s first Christian king. Many runic stones, church ruins and remains of a 1,000-year-old town plan are evidence of its former greatness.

    Day 11: Cruise to Finland

    Join an optional excursion to Drottningholm. A glittering royal palace that stands on an island in Lake Mälaren, this is the world’s largest inhabited royal residence. This evening, board your overnight cruise to Finland. (B, D)

    Drottningholm Excursion: $129. Set elegantly on Lovön Island in tranquil Lake Mälaren, the gracious 17th-century Palace of Drottningholm hearkens back to the opulence of a bygone age. The magnificence of this royal residence, still the permanent residence of Swedish royalty, rivals that of Versailles. The tour includes the resplendent rococo interiors and sweeping gardens. Later, you may wish to explore the fascinating Court Theatre, with its original 18th-century stage sets.

    Day 12: Helsinki

    A sightseeing guide meets you as you dock in Helsinki. On your tour of the Finnish capital, see the red-granite Parliament building, Senate Square, Sibelius Park and Temppeliaukio Church, carved out of a rocky hillside. Your afternoon is free to visit the outdoor marketplace or the National Museum. (B, D)

    Day 1: Ciao bella Roma

    Day 2: Rome and Tauck's exclusive after-hours visit to the Vatican Museums

    Take a walking tour of Rome, accompanied by a local guide, then spend some free time as you please before a special visit to the Vatican. Tauck has arranged for an after-hours guided visit to the Vatican Museums, including the Candelabra Gallery, the Map Gallery, and the Tapestries, as well as the Sistine Chapel (day of the tour may vary). This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the treasures of the Vatican without the crowds – where discoveries include the fact that the floor of the Sistine Chapel is almost as amazing as the ceiling!     Day 3: A day well spent in the Eternal City

    Day 4: A little taste of the country life in Umbria

    Travel north to Orvieto, set on a 984-foot plateau overlooking vineyards below; enjoy a guided visit to the town's 14th-century Duomo, one of Italy's most renowned Romanesque-Gothic cathedrals, built over a span of 300 years. After time to explore and have lunch on your own in Orvieto, hit Tauck's Yellow Roads once again for a journey to Perugia, capital of Umbria. Your home for the next two nights is a luxury hilltop hotel overlooking the Umbrian valley below, boasting some of the most remarkable views in the region.

    Day 5: Medieval musings in Assisi

    Embark on an excursion to hilltop Assisi, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its art and architecture, and renowned as the home town of St. Francis, the beloved patron saint of animals.     Day 7: A local expert talks art and architecture in Florence

    Walk among some of Florence's landmark sights with a local expert, prior to a tour of the Uffizi Gallery, the world's oldest art gallery and one of Europe's greatest art museums.     Day 1: Arrive Edinburgh

    Welcome to Edinburgh, Scotland's jewel of a capital city. A transfer from Edinburgh Airport to the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is included. You'll meet your fellow travelers who will share your Scotland and England travel adventures at a welcome reception and dinner tonight.

    Day 2: Edinburgh's castles and palaces

    A sightseeing tour of historic Edinburgh with a local guide is the perfect place to begin any Scotland and England travel. Start at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official home in the city (subject to closure when Her Majesty is in residence). Then explore 12th-century Edinburgh Castle, on the opposite end of the city's famous Royal Mile, on a guided tour. There is much more of Edinburgh to explore on your own this afternoon.     Day 6: Ancient Chester and on to Wales

Much of this 2,000-year-old city still follows its orginal pattern dating back to when it was the Roman town of Deva; its old defensive walls make a pleasant walk around the ancient city center, sporting Roman ruins, a Gothic cathedral, and a mix of medieval, Georgian, Victorian and modern architecture. Cross into Wales, arriving in the idyllic coastal village of Portmeirion for a two-night stay.     Day 4: • Music and more in Imperial Vienna

    Get an overview of grand old Vienna, Austria, with a morning sightseeing tour of this historic city, once the center of Europe's Habsburg empire. Then take your choice of a tour of grandiose Schönbrunn Palace, built to rival Versailles, or a visit to the Imperial Silver Room inside the Hofburg – the former Imperial Palace and today the residence of Austria's president. Tonight, you'll receive the royal treatment with a private Imperial Evening at a traditional palace in Vienna featuring a sumptuous dinner and live Viennese music.

    Day 5: • Medieval Austrian abbeys and castles

    Your riverboat continues along the Danube to Dürnstein, whose twisting medieval lanes you'll explore on a walking tour. High above the town lie the ruins of Kuenringerburg, the castle where English King Richard the Lionhearted was held prisoner during the Crusades; an invigorating walk up the hill to the ruins leads to beautiful vistas of the river, town and surrounding countryside. Enjoy more great views of castles and lush vineyards from the top deck or through the panoramic windows of your riverboat while cruising through the wine-growing Wachau Valley. Stop in Melk for a guided tour of its 900-year-old Benedictine Abbey, perched on a rocky outcrop above the river. Inside this Baroque masterpiece are fine frescoes, early manuscripts, and a high altar. Your evening aboard the riverboat includes a wine tasting and a performance by local entertainers.

    Day 6: • Explore Baroque Passau and cruise the Danube

    After crossing the border from Austria to Germany, dock in the Bavarian town of Passau on the Danube and Inn rivers, whose history dates back to the days of the Roman empire.     Day 7: • Along the Danube to ancient Regensburg

    It's on to the well-preserved medieval town of Regensburg, once a campsite for the Roman legions, today. Our local guide leads you on a delightful walking tour of Old Town including the Steinerne Brücke over the Danube, the oldest stone bridge in Germany; massive Dom St. Peter, the town's 14th-century Gothic cathedral; and Altes Rathaus, the 15th-century town hall that was once the seat of the Imperial Diet.

    Day 8: • Main-Danube Canal & Nürnberg

    Your Danube, Main and Rhine river cruise negotiates the Main-Danube Canal, which ultimately links the North Sea with the Black Sea; learn about the canal's history from a local expert during your transit. The idea goes back as far as Charlemagne, but wasn't realized until the canal's completion in the 1990s; pass through 16 locks as the waterway traverses the mountains.     Today's travels take you to medieval Rothenburg, on Germany's "Romantic Road," to see its Gothic cathedrals and gabled houses. In charming Würzburg, discover the town's 18th-century Residenz and the ornate Alte Mainbrücke, a bridge over the River Main. And you'll know you're cruising through Bavaria when an oompa band plays for you aboard the riverboat this evening!

    Day 11: • Cruising the Main to Miltenberg

    Meander along the River Main, through through scenic valleys studded with castles, cathedrals, and fortified towns, to the ancient town of Miltenberg; en route, enjoy an on-board glassblowing demonstration by practitioners of this time-honored craft. Enclosed by a wall with gate towers under a steep hill crowned by a castle, Miltenberg boasts many half-timbered houses and a charming Marktplatz.

    Day 12: • From the Main to the Rhine & Rüdesheim

    Leave the Main behind today as your Rhine River cruise continues on to Rüdesheim. A visit to Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett – an eclectic collection of mechanical musical instruments housed in a 15th-century castle in Rüdesheim – precedes tonight's entertaining dinner in a local German restaurant with an old-world ambiance.

    Day 13: • Koblenz or castles & Köln, a.k.a. Cologne

    Arrive in Koblenz, where you can choose a walking tour of its Old Town or a visit to Marksburg Castle; set high above the Rhine, it dates back to the 13th century and offers a taste of medieval life. Your Rhine River cruise continues through the scenic Lorelei Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Köln (Cologne). Then enjoy views of medieval architecture on a sightseeing cruise along Amsterdam’s 17th-century canals, and spend time exploring this fascinating city as you please.

    Day 15: Journey home

    Your Danube, Main, and Rhine river cruise ends in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Disembark in Amsterdam; a transfer is included from the riverboat to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. Allow 2 1/2 hours for departure flight check-in.
