    Day 1: Philadelphia

    Welcome to "the city of brotherly love!" Join us at our opening hotel and meet your new traveling friends at a relaxed evening gathering. Welcome Reception ­included.

    Day 2: Philadelphia

    Today we'll immerse ourselves in American history on an exciting Philadelphia tour. You'll see Betsy Ross's house, visit a one-of-a-kind museum devoted to Ben Franklin and peer down the oldest street in the original 13 colonies. A highlight today is the National Constitution Center, where you'll feel as if you're meeting the Founding Fathers in person! After lunch, we'll behold one of the most revered symbols of American freedom—the Liberty Bell. Then we'll walk in the footsteps of the Founding Fathers at Independence Hall. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 3: Lancaster County

    We start today with a visit to beautiful Longwood Gardens, the former estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont, with 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows.

    Later, we'll head to Lancaster County where many Amish families still plant and harvest with horse teams. Taste your way through the Jam & Relish Kitchen at Kitchen Kettle Village, then we'll go right to the source when we sample the homemade ice cream on our visit to Lapp Valley Farm.

    Meet the Lapp family on their Mennonite farm and enjoy a homecooked Amish lunch prepared by the Stoltzfus family.

    Day 4: Gettysburg

    This morning, stand where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg ­Address and tour the battleground where North met South in the Battle of Gettysburg.

    Lunch today is an unforgettable meal at the Dobbin House Tavern, built in 1776! Later we'll visit the Pennsylvania home that served as a "temporary White House" for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 5: Hershey

    Today we'll enjoy a mouth-watering "taste tour" of Pennsylvania. We'll visit Hoedecker Celery Farm, the Sturgis Pretzel House and then get to know the "man behind the chocolate bar" on our tasty tour of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

    We'll return to Willow Valley and enjoy a relaxing dinner together tonight. Meals included: B, D.

    Day 6: Morgantown/Philadelphia

    We'll return to Amish country this morning, then savor a bountiful Amish lunch at the home of Levi and Lydia Stoltzfus.

    Welcome to America’s capital! Pick up your rental car at the airport and start exploring or proceed to your hotel.

    An entire day to experience Colonial Williamsburg, the most extensively restored 18th-century town in the U.S. Stroll down its quaint street, browse through the historic trade shops, and see the Public Gaol. This evening, why not enjoy a Colonial-style dinner at a famous local tavern?

    Day 5: Williamsburg–Monticello–Charlottesville.

    Drive north through Virginia with a stop in Richmond, once the capital of the Confederacy. Continue your journey through an area that Thomas Jefferson called the “Eden of the Country.” Why not visit Jefferson’s Monticello home atop a mountain, described as one of the country’s foremost architectural masterpieces? Approximately 122 miles/196 km.

    Day 6: Charlottesville–Harpers Ferry–Gettysburg.

    Today you may want to stop in beautiful Shenandoah National Park with fantastic views from Skyline Drive. Continue into West Virginia and Harpers Ferry, where John Brown and his army staged their fateful raid on the U.S. Arsenal. Then, cross into Maryland and on to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Approximately 184 miles/296 km.

    Day 7: Gettysburg–Penn Dutch Country–Valley Forge–Philadelphia.

    You have time this morning to visit Gettysburg National Military Park and learn more about the Battle of 1863. Continue through Pennsylvania Dutch Country to historic Valley Forge. End the day in Philadelphia, where you may choose to visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Approximately 151 miles/243 km.

    Day 3: Washington DC–Mount Vernon–Williamsburg

    . (Mon.) This morning we visit MOUNT VERNON, the restored home of George Washington. Tour the house and gardens, and visit the gravesite. Then, visit YORKTOWN HISTORICAL BATTLEFIELD PARK, the site where the British surrendered to Washington’s troops in 1781, bringing the American Revolution to a successful conclusion.     Day 4: Williamsburg. Excursion to Jamestown Settlement

Visit the nearby JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT for a guided tour to learn about the first permanent English settlement in the New World. JOHN’S CHURCH, where Patrick Henry proclaimed, “Give me liberty or give me death.” On the way to Charlottesville, tour MONTICELLO, Thomas Jefferson’s estate, with its beautiful gardens and imposing mansion designed by Jefferson himself. Enjoy photo stops and panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive in beautiful SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, where you will stay for the night. (B,D)

    Day 6: Shenandoah National Park–Harpers Ferry–Gettysburg

    . (Thu.) Today, follow much the same route as Lee’s army during its invasion of Pennsylvania. In West Virginia, visit HARPERS FERRY, where John Brown and his “army of liberation” staged their fateful raid on a U.S. arsenal. Continue across Maryland to GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK.     Day 3: Walk the Battle Lines of Gettysburg

    . (Tue.) Today at GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK, recount the Battle of 1863 and examine the experiences and emotions of the Southern soldiers in battle. This afternoon is free to enjoy at your leisure—perhaps relax at your hotel’s pool! This evening, enjoy a Colonial candlelit dinner at the elegant DOBBIN HOUSE TAVERN, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.     DAY 5 NILE CRUISE: EDFU / KOM OMBO - This morning we visit Edfu to see Egypt’s best-preserved cult temple, which was dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Then we cruise to Kom Ombo. Why not relax on deck as we glide by primitive villages on the banks of the river. They have changed little in a thousand years. Tonight we don traditional Egyptian galabias for a fun-filled Egyptian Dinner and Galabia Party. (B,L,D)

    Day 6

    DAY 6 NILE CRUISE: KOM OMBO / ASWAN - We visit the roofless Temple of Kom Ombo, which was built for the falcon and croco- dile gods. From here we cruise to Aswan to take a memorable felucca ride across the Nile to see the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island. The felucca is the traditional watercraft of Egyptians, who have sailed in them down the centuries. (B,L,D)

    Days 7-10

    Nile Cruise: Luxor / Edfu - Today’s highlight is a visit to the Valley of the Kings. Secluded in the Theban Hills, it is where the New Kingdom pharaohs were buried in tombs built into the hillsides.     DAY 8 CAIRO SIGHTSEEING - Today we enjoy a full day of sightseeing which will include the Citadel, the spectacular complex dominating Cairo’s skyline. From here we make a visit to the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Mohammed Ali’s Alabaster Mosque with its ornate interior. In old Cairo we will visit the Hanging Church of St. Mary above the old water gate. Also we will visit the Egyptian Museum, home of King Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures. (BB)

    Day 9

    DAY 9 PYRAMIDS EXCURSION - Drive to Memphis where we see the limestone Colossus of Ramses II and the giant Alabaster Sphinx. Next we continue to Sakkara where the Step Pyramid heralded the start of the pyramid age. From here prepare for a breathtaking experience, as we marvel at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the Sphinx, which casts its enigmatic gaze across the sands of the desert. Your evening is at leisure. (BB)

    DAY 10 CAIRO AT LEISURE - A free day to sightsee, shop or relax. (BB)

    Nile Cruise: Edfu / Kom Ombo - This morning we visit Edfu to see Egypt’s best-preserved cult temple, which was dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Then we cruise to Kom Ombo. Why not relax on deck as we glide by primitive villages on the banks of the river. They have changed little in a thousand years. Tonight we don traditional Egyptian galabias for a fun-filled Egyptian Dinner and Galabia Party. (B,L,D)

    Day 1

    Welcome to Washington DC! A complimentary transfer is provided to the tour hotel. Your Tour Director is at the hotel this afternoon to greet you and answer your questions. Join us at 6:00pm for a Welcome Drink at the hotel.

    Day 2

    This morning we tour Washington DC with a local guide viewing the city’s most famous landmarks, including the White House, the Washington Monument and the Mall. We stop at the World War II and Lincoln Memorials. Then we visit Arlington National Cemetery and learn about the final resting place of the nation’s heroes on a narrated tour onboard a Tourmobile. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this fascinating city. (Full breakfast)

    Day 3

    Today we visit the home of George Washington, Mount Vernon, which overlooks the Potomac River. Later, Revolutionary War history comes alive as we visit the Yorktown Victory Center. Then we step further back into America’s British Colonial period, arriving in Williamsburg for a two-night stay. This evening we enjoy a Highlight Dinner featuring a traditional colonial menu.     Day 4

    Today we are joined by a local guide and explore Jamestown, home of the first permanent English settlement in America, founded in 1607 by colonists seeking a new beginning in the New World. We spend the remainder of the day absorbing the sights and sounds of Colonial Williamsburg. We step back into the 18th century as we stroll along Duke of Gloucester Street where the townspeople, adorned in period costume, go about their daily lives in faithfully restored shops, taverns and homes. A variety of walking tours, arts performances, political speeches, trades demonstrations, military exercises, fife and drum parades and more is available daily. (Full breakfast)

    Day 5

    Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We travel to Richmond, once the capital of the Confederacy. Here a local guide takes us on a visit to St. John’s Church, a National Historic Landmark, where Patrick Henry delivered his famous Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech. From here we continue into the rolling hills of Virginia’s countryside to Monticello, for a guided tour of the beautiful home of President Thomas Jefferson. This afternoon we enter Shenandoah National Park and take Skyline Drive along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, through the woods and past stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the rolling Piedmont region to the east. Deer, black bear, wild turkey, and a host of other woodland animals call Shenandoah home and can be easily spotted. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

    Day 6

    This morning we step back into the past as we see the quaint and historic community of Harpers Ferry, at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. This was the site of John Brown’s famous raid, which helped ignite the flames of the Civil War. Next we reach the town of Gettysburg and visit the nearby farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower which served as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. (Full breakfast)

    Day 7

    This morning we join an expert battlefield guide for a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park, the site of three days of ferocious fighting that marked an important turning point in the Civil War and changed the course of American history forever. This is the place where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address which helped mend a torn nation. We will have time to visit the recently-opened and awe-inspiring $135-million Museum and Visitor Center. Then we’re off to Lancaster County in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, the land of the Amish. We explore the rich farmlands and learn more about these people who eschew modern life. Next we arrive in Philadelphia. This evening we enjoy a Farewell Dinner. (Full breakfast / Farewell dinner)

    After breakfast, we enjoy an orientation tour of Philadelphia. We visit the awardwinning National Constitution Center, the first ever museum dedicated to the US Constitution. Next we explore Independence National Historical Park, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Later we return to Washington DC, where a complimentary transfer is provided to Dulles International and Ronald Reagan National Airports and to the tour hotel in Washington DC for passengers extending their stay (Full breakfast)

    Day 1: Arrive in Washington DC

    . (Sat.) Welcome to Washington DC! At 6 pm, meet with your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

    Day 2: Washington DC

    . (Sun.) Your half-day guided tour features ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY with the KENNEDY GRAVESITE, and VIETNAM, KOREAN, and WORLD WAR II MEMORIALS, as well as many other well-known sites. Also stop for photos at the White House and Capitol Hill. The afternoon is free to pursue your favorite interests. Maybe visit the Smithsonian Institute, Georgetown, the National Cathedral, or other prominent monuments and museums. Try our optional dinner tonight at one of Washington’s favorite restaurants, followed by an illumination tour of beautiful monuments. (B)

    Day 3: Washington DC–Mount Vernon–Williamsburg

    . (Mon.) This morning we visit MOUNT VERNON, the restored home of George Washington. Tour the house and gardens, and visit the gravesite. Then, visit YORKTOWN HISTORICAL BATTLEFIELD PARK, the site where the British surrendered to Washington’s troops in 1781, bringing the American Revolution to a successful conclusion.     Day 4: Williamsburg. Excursion to Jamestown Settlement

    . (Tue.) This morning, enjoy an exclusive PERFORMANCE from Sylvia Tabb-Lee, a professional historian. Visit the nearby JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT for a guided tour to learn about the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Then, enter COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG’S HISTORIC AREA, where costumed villagers add to the authenticity. Stroll down its quaint streets, browse through the historic trade shops, and see the Public Gaol. Also be sure to drop in at Raleigh Tavern, the meeting place for Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other patriots. This evening, enjoy a Colonial-style dinner at a famous local TAVERN.     Day 5: Williamsburg–Monticello–Shenandoah National Park

    . (Wed.) First stop is Richmond, Virginia’s capital and once the capital of the Confederacy. Visit ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, where Patrick Henry proclaimed, “Give me liberty or give me death.” On the way to Charlottesville, tour MONTICELLO, Thomas Jefferson’s estate, with its beautiful gardens and imposing mansion designed by Jefferson himself. Enjoy photo stops and panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive in beautiful SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, where you will stay for the night. (B,D)

    Day 6: Shenandoah National Park–Harpers Ferry–Gettysburg

    . (Thu.) Today, follow much the same route as Lee’s army during its invasion of Pennsylvania. In West Virginia, visit HARPERS FERRY, where John Brown and his “army of liberation” staged their fateful raid on a U.S. arsenal. Continue across Maryland to GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK. Enjoy a tour of Gettysburg and hear your local guide vividly recount the Battle of 1863. Also spend some free time on your own. This evening, enjoy a Colonial-style candlelit dinner at the elegant DOBBIN HOUSE TAVERN, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (B,D)

    Day 7: Gettysburg–Valley Forge–Philadelphia

    . (Fri.) This morning, enjoy an exclusive PRESENTATION by Jim Getty, one of America’s foremost Abraham Lincoln portrayers. Then, travel through Lancaster County past Amish farmlands to VALLEY FORGE. Take a tour of the national historic park, the camp where Washington and his troops endured the harsh winter of 1777–1778. Visit such sites as Washington’s Headquarters, the Grand Parade, and the Washington Memorial Chapel. Continue to Philadelphia, where this evening your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale for your vacation. (B,D)

    Day 8: Philadelphia–Washington DC

    . (Sat.) This morning, your sightseeing focuses on the important buildings of this historic city, the birthplace of the nation. Major attractions you will visit include the LIBERTY BELL and INDEPENDENCE HALL. Continue to the Philadelphia Airport for guests with homebound flights (please schedule flights from the Philadelphia Airport after 1:30 pm). For passengers who would like to return to Washington DC, the motorcoach will transfer passengers to the Capital Hilton at no additional cost. (B)

    Day 9: Washington DC

    . (Sun.) A full day at leisure. If you wish to see more of the sights, take the included OLD TOWN TROLLEY that loops around the city, stopping at various museums and monuments. (B)

    Day 1: NEW YORK.

    Welcome to the “Big Apple!” Enjoy time at leisure to relax or to do some independent exploring. Your Tour Director is on hand this evening to answer any questions.

    Day 2: NEW YORK CITY–CORNING–NIAGARA FALLS.

    Depart Manhattan, heading northwest across New Jersey through the Pocono Mountains and into upstate New York, arriving in Corning at mid-day. Late this afternoon, cross the border at Rainbow Bridge and proceed to the Canadian side of the Niagara River in the province of Ontario. Spend the next two nights in beautiful Niagara Falls.

    Day 3: NIAGARA FALLS

    . On this morning’s sightseeing tour, behold the spectacular falls from Table Rock. Then, board the MAID OF THE MIST for amazing close-up views. Your afternoon is free, so why not hop aboard the “People Mover” (local transport) and visit attractions such as the Butterfly Conservatory, Great Gorge Adventure, Botanical Gardens, and Niagara Parks Greenhouse, or ride the aerial cable car. Tonight, join our optional fun-filled Canadian musical. This entertaining evening includes a 5-course dinner served family style.NOTE: The operation of the Maid of the Mist cruise is subject to favorable weather and/or river conditions. Usually, favorable conditions exist from mid-May to late-October. When weather is unfavorable, a walking tour through the scenic tunnels will be substituted.

    Day 4: NIAGARA FALLS–PHILADELPHIA.

    Head southeast through the Appalachian Mountains and into the Susquehanna River Valley. Then, continue to the handsome city of Philadelphia for an overnight stay.

    Day 5: PHILADELPHIA–WASHINGTON DC AREA.

    The “City of Brotherly Love” is also the birthplace of American Independence and is steeped in history. Our morning orientation tour focuses on the city’s historic landmarks. Then, on to the U.S. capital and seat of government, Washington DC, for a 2-night stay. Later, join the optional outing, featuring dinner followed by a tour of the city’s most famous memorials.

    Day 6: WASHINGTON DC AREA.

    The nation’s capital is a sightseeing treasure trove, and your half-day tour with a Local Guide features ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY, the KOREAN & VIETNAM WAR VETERANS MEMORIALS, and other well-known sights. Stop for photos at the White House, the official residence of the President of the Unites States, and Capitol Hill. The afternoon is free. Your Tour Director will suggest independent activities for exploring this fascinating city.

    Day 7: WASHINGTON DC AREA–NEW YORK CITY.

    This morning, drive to Newark International Airport for guests with homebound flights. Please schedule flights after 5:30 pm. The trip ends in Manhattan in the late afternoon.
